Sump Guard
Before I even purchased my 'new to me' 65 plate D4 HSE Lux in December I brought this Sump Guard from another member on here as I'd always wanted one on my D3.
I must admit that since I got the car I've been reluctant to fit it as I'm not sure I like the look of it, and certainly don't actually need it as I'm not subjecting the D4 to to anything like the punishment the D3 had.
I'm thinking of maybe fitting it when I'm heading off somewhere where I might need it. It would take 2 minutes each time to swap the standard plastic tow ring cover for this, and maybe when I'm a little less precious about the D4 I'll leave it on.
However, over the weekend I offered it up to the D4 and realised for the first time that to fit it I will need to remove completely or cut back the small rubber air deflectors hanging down under the front bumper, so I'm even more reluctant to fit it now than ever.
The other option is to cut some slots in the guard so it fits over the air deflectors, but that would effect the value of the guard when I come to sell it at a later date.
Has everyone else just cut the deflectors?

I thought those little spats under the front bumper were meant to try and reduce splash coming up over the bonnet when you go through standing water ?2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

They probably are, I just assumed they were for directing air.
In that case it seems an even worse idea to cut them in half or take them off.

Is your sump guard the MY14 onwards model? If not it won’t fit properly. 👍2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Yes it's the MY14 onwards one, correct for the car.
I'll have a look at how they come off later then.
Thanks

From memory they can easily be removed without damage. Must be as I know I’ve got one or two pairs of them in one of my sheds.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Fitted the same RLD plate to my MY14 D4.
I cut my spats to size either side of the plate and put a slight curve on the corners to make it look standard.
The plate does improve that section of the front end imo.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Those rubbery bits come off easily without damage; two or three screws per side. If they were meant to stop water coming up over the bonnet when driving through deep water they don't work! The kids are always encouraging me to drive through deep puddles as the water goes satisfyingly all over the car.
Haven't noticed any increase in noise or spray or anything since removing them and fitting my sump guard.D1 300Tdi - gone

I fitted and RLD sump guard and just unscrewed the front deflectors and put them in a safe place in the corner of the garage.
