Installing Powerful UK FOG 923 - WIN |
|
Evening folks.
Any pointers please ? Tried installing these lights today, simple loom, tapped into suggested wire for signal wire and also connected into fuse 9 under bonnet (strangely others I’ve read had higher than a 5w fuse in there)
All seemed to go ok. However.. When I started after everything connected up:-
Headlight DRL - 0
Fog light operation (when headlights turned on manually ) - 0
DRL in new FOG 923 - 0
So basically nothing worked. Headlights came in if you over rode the auto light function.
So I reverted. Everything now ok but strangely got a b13c2-86(2f). Suspect unrelated but first time today I think. Hmmm.
Any thoughts please on where I could have gone wrong or what I can try?
Thanks
Paul

Cheers. I’ve emailed them as their info kind of suggested you don’t need anything like that
Where did it link in out of interest?

The relay has 5 cables
Red which is connected to one of the spare positions in the engine bay fuse box which is switched with the ign. I have fitted and inline fuse.
The black is the - and is connected to the nearest earth stud
The cables are covered in heat shrink so can't confirm the colours of the other cables. Instructions come with the relay and are good
The remaining 3 cables are + & - to drl and also a link wire to the headlight feed. with no other lights on the DRLs are bright. When the head lights come on the DRLs dim.

Appreciate you checking. Thanks. The picture of their loom and the description gives the impressing a relay isn’t required but must be in you needed one. I’ll wait for them to call me. Emailed them last night

Well, That was interesting. It took a little time to figure out so I thought I’d give a small write up that might help others..
To confirm.
I’ve got a 2016 D4.
I ordered the FOG 923-WIN from PowerfulUK – They are spec’d and “will work” with this car as per their site, even called plug and play. Judge for yourself.
The below now working without a relay that the helpful chap above suggested may be of use.
Before we start.
I just learnt that your DRL’s don’t switch on until you put the car in gear (you can put it in park and the light will stay on which is helpful). That’s why in prev thread I reported DRLs weren’t working J
So I got my trusty meter out and observed that:-
1. The positive and negative were the wrong way around in their loom – i..e. the lights would never have worked. The vid and picture on their site shows a RR Sport, nevertheless I’d expect the loom to be the same.
2. The connection that their site shows to scotchlock the Yellow wire to (a yellow wire which is confusingly blue on the site pic!!),MIGHT work on the RR sport but on the D4 there is no current difference with dip beam or no dip beam. – So that won’t work either
To get it working I pushed the pins out of the connections on the powerfulUK loom and swapped them – great the fogs now work
Now the signal cable.
The YELLOW wire on the loom can be soldered / scotch locked onto the dip beam wire, I think it was blue with pink stripe on the back of the connector to headlight. This works now and turns off the DRL when you flash the headlamps or if dip / main beam is activated, when you stop ignition and lock the car, the DRLs go off about 10 seconds later.
The fog lights also work too.
For the ignition live under the bonnet I used fuse 9. It’s just jammed in there at the moment but am going to get a piggyback micro fuse holder.
All in all a bit of a faff, but if you now know the above it’s an hour’s job.
It’s a shame they haven’t tested it on a D4 and assumed they’d be the same.
Ah well..

The wiring is different between the 2014 to 16 LR4 and 09 to 13 RRS. The same years RRS and LR4 are near identical. 012MY RRS 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography (Current)
