RR Vogue 4.4 V8 vs D3 V8

Morning all

How does the RR vogue 4.4 V8 compare to the D3 V8, anyone have experience ?

Reliability wise everyone speaks well of the D3 yet the RR can be had for cheaper

Take a 2005 for comparison, how do they compare?

Thanks all

Not had either of those particular ones.
Have had a long and varied selection of discoveries. From early 200 tdi to D4 tdv6 and sdv6. Only owned one Range Rover to date, slightly later tdv8.
If you have not yet had a Range Rover, find a rust free ish one and enjoy it!
My venture into one was lovely from a driving and using point of view. From an emptying wallet point it did a manifold on one side and the epic bill this generated decided its future with me.

On the plus side it is up there as the best car I have owned according to my wife, she loved driving it.

Potentially less chance of manifold issues with the Petrol?

Bodywork rust appears to be the main item with the age group you are studying, no actual formula. So good, lots bad from what I have seen. Sills near rear arches, rear arches, tailgate upper section along the bottom seam.
Find a nice one you will be very happy with it. Thumbs Up

Hi Jack,
I am also interested in this comparison. I have also been looking at the RR 4.2 supercharged version as well. I know the interior space/7-seater issue has been mentioned in a couple of other posts but that is not an issue for me.
As you have pointed out a 2005 RR V8 is a lot cheaper than the equivalent D3.

It’s not as practical or versatile as the D3, but if it suits your needs the L322 is a wonderful vehicle.

Check out the FFRR website. Thumbs Up

I think the early L322 (so that would be the 4.4 V8 petrol) used a Torsen diff in the transfer box rather than the later multi-plate clutch. Later, they switched to the same system as the D3 and its derivatives.

Thanks all, I’ll have a browse on Martins other site.

Difficult working out which is deemed as a better vehicle part wise after this time.

I fancy a V8 petrol as a change.

Was there known issues with the transfer box do you know RRSTDV8?

Thanks all

Sorry, I don't know if it was problematic or not.

I did some more research on this

Up until 2007 the FFRR has a BMW 4.4 V8 in

Although some say its good, a lot say the JLR 4.4 as seen in there D3 I believe is a vast improvement.

A 2005 RR is the old design car when compared to a 2005 D3 which is newer generation.
Thanks why.

If you don’t need load space, go for the best, Range Rover sport supercharged.

I think it is earlier than 07 for the jaguar 4.4 V8. 55 or 56 plate will have them?

Just a rather rarer beast as most were 4.2 supercharged.

I've had 2 L322 4.4's . Both had been converted to lpg before my ownership which made running them a little cheaper but had their own problems, (lpg leak, extra servicing for the lpg system, lose boot space or spare wheel, limited amount of garages selling lpg etc). Anyway both were lovely to drive sounded very good with a heavy right foot. I believe the main thing to watch for on the petrol is the chain guides need doing around 100k miles which is about £3k for a garage to do. The later 4.2 Jag engine doesn't take lpg as well without flash lube.
I found the RR to be the most comfortable car I've driven to date with ample space, my wife loved driving it but became to hate the running costs. The last one was a bit of a lemon Laughing

The 5.0 supercharged engine is fantastic (I ran a FFRR with this engine for a year), however the timing chains guides can fail and replacement is not cheap at around £3000. If you fancy this engine I’d be tempted to look at a L322 rather than a sport. There are amazing value currently. 👍

You do need to look at the full sized RR
And the sport in person.

The full sized is significantly taller and bigger
Depends what you want.

I can’t disagree with the value for money though.

I found my 2010 ffrr felt a bit barn door compared to the d3 and d4. Right up until it finished in 2013 it was the same car designed way back when.
