Tom Tom 920 or Garmin Nuvi 770
Anybody using either of these sat nav units? and if so are they any good? ease of use etc.

Tom Tom 520/520T (UK + Ireland maps), 720/720T (W Europe maps) I believe are also Btooth enabled and in the T version come with the traffic module.
We ended up buying a 920 because we are going to the US for 3 weeks and hiring a minivan and wanted the US maps.

Personally prefer TomTom's software and ease of use. Also a Mac version of their software to update cameras, maps, backup the memory card is available. Not from Garmin so knocked them off the list.
Autocar's Chris Harris made a comment in his column recently that the TomTom just worked everywhere they went during their recent test drive and the alternatives were crap.
Garmin Nuvi 660 £269 or so at Halfords, full Europe mapping and bluetooth also FM capability.
Having used both Tom Tom and Garmin I'd have the Garmin every time, Navteq (Garmin maps) are widely acknowledged to be the best.
Used Garmins for 4 years and they've never put me wrong.

Got a 720 and a 920, both are awesome, and have never let me down, have played with Garmin, but can't quite commit! Also prefer the Tomtom interface.D4 HSE Luxury SDV6,

My experience of Garmin (a Quest) is exactly the opposite of this. The TomTom just works every time but with all of them you must not just blindly follow what they say. You will, eventually, end up up a blind alley.Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they're not out to get you.

Iom Tom v Garmin
Can't comment about the Garmin as I've never used one. Have the 920 and down loaded the Europe mapping for our Europe trip last year Sept/Oct . Hired a motor home out of Frankfurt and drove through Germany, France, Italy, AAustria and Czech Republic. Tom Tom was fantiastic - had one 'lock up' where we had to reset, but other than that very good. Each night we modelled route options to give good ombination of back roads and motorways and generally very helpful. 20Gb hard drive is very useful for storing music et al - but we found out the hard way that you can't download photos direct fro ma digital camera, needs a lap top interface.
Now have th 920 mounted in the Disco and need to work out how to use it for outback navigation.

Personally, having both a Tom Tom one and Nuvi 660, the Tom Tom Software/updates are better.
The one big plus for the Garmin for a D3 owner with no touch screen (which anyone looking to buy a sat nav must be) is that the Garmin mount fits nicely in the are where the Touch Screen would be, but I found the Tom Tom only possible to mount on the screen.

The sony NV U93 and panasonic strada are very good units. Both have big touch screens about 5 in, and have bluetooth as well. I have panasonic strada..nice unit and fits very well in the centre. Check them out.
