Coolant loss, seemingly once only....

Anyone else had this? Driving along and noticed temperature gauge climbing rapidly up. Stopped car immediately. Let it cool down. Added water and drove home no problems. Can't see a leak. Was the coolant just low? Would that make the gauge head for the red that suddenly?

Probably no. If you had to add water then you have a leak unless of course you have just changed the fluid and did not bleed it correctly. Check in the "V" of the engine
