Possible to get rid of ”key out of ignition” epb actuating?
Its a bit annoying that it actuates every time i stop and pull out the key.
And my epb is broken too. I have to replace the gears but that’s another thing.
Im also figuring out a new hydraulic hand brake system but im not sure if the swedish mot-guys will approve it

Surely the only important thing is that it actually works? If the early Golfs could pass the UK MOT with a disc handbrake that then let go when the discs cooled, I would have thought a hydraulic one would be OK.

My Dad used to have Chrysler 180 many years ago with a Hydraulic handbrake, you had to press on the brake then lift the lever which locked the pressure to the rear brakes.
I remember going with him to get an MOT and the tester couldnt work out how to operate it he pulled up the lever and had no rear brakes at all.
The Handbrake worked very well until you had a leak as we found out when parking at the top of a hill and finding it at the bottom a few hours later.
Hydraulic hand brakes are not allowed as they can leak causing the car to roll away even the cars that have the EPB built into a calliper use an electric motor to mechanically wind in the piston, the EPB system also reapplies the pressure to the discs when they've cooled down.
The reason for the ignition out apply on the D3 is that on a manual the vehicle doesn't have to be left in gear to take the key out, whereas on the auto it has to be in Park. It was introduced to allow it to meet legal requirements.
If the system is maintained correctly it works well. It just needs to be maintained.1972 Range Rover Classic 2 door V8

I think that if you depress the brake pedal and hold the parking brake switch down as you switch off the ignition the EPB may not operate. Unsure about this and unable to test at the moment as I am parked on a slope inches away from a house.

@dieseltomten.
Get your own a GAP IID diagnostic tool and you can turn it off yourself. I'm surprised you haven't purchased one already yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Yes i should have bought one but everything else of my machines have broken down/ needed severe overhaul since i bought the disco too so i have spend my money on that. And house repair too.
Today arrived a used fbh so i can replace that👌🏻
Soon hopefully i will buy one. This china delphi system im borrowing is not good.
But still, an electric handbrake is not reliable in my opinion. My defenders wire hand brake has not caused
any troubles for 16 years...

I think the electric part brake is more to do with the stylists than brake engineers , but it does mean you cannot partly apply it and in extremis it does work well as an emergency brake should there be a total hydraulic failure , which can happen as I have found out.

I have the same problem with the key. Worse even, because sometimes it locks the car normally but after a while the key cylinder decides that it has "a ghost key" again and my alarm goes off. When you come back with the remote it take ages to open the car.
My temporary solution was to knock (with the finger) a few times on the key cylinder. The little door/hatch comes down. Do not use oil there (even those "special" for keys with graphite and what ever) What I found best was to use electric contact cleaner spray.
I suppose the dirt and stuff accumulated over the time blocks the movement of that hatch.
