D3 wants to stay home after lockdown
Hi All,
Having a strange issue with my 08 D3 2.7 auto HSE.
During lockdown I’ve still been getting out once a week or so for shopping so car has been used however the last couple of weeks, it has not wanted to pull off the front drive 2 or 3 times.
I get in, engine on, allow self check to complete while getting the seatbelt on, then foot brake down, into reverse, electronic brake off and push the gas peddle....and....nothing. Revs go up to about 1200rpm, even with gas pedal almost fully down, it starts to crawl backwards as if handbrake on, no error or warning lights showing. I’ve tried switching epb on and off in case it’s stuck, switch engine off and restart and car moves back a bit quicker but struggles. Once I’m on the road and going revs suddenly kick in and it jumps away, perfect drive after.
My drive is a slope (but not a hill), is there a chance the epb sometimes sticks with pressure on it towards the front of the car so reversing out has a problem? I’m suspecting epb but would the car limit the revs in response to epb not coming off?
Hoping it’s because it likes being home nowadays but suspect that’s not the case any ideas anyone?2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

It sounds like the brakes/handbrake is sticking a little.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.
Sounds like the symptoms mine used to exhibit when the EGR valves or valve were on the way out. The butterfly valve sticks IIRC
It would start no problem, go to accelerate off the drive & the rev's wouldn't pick up nor the car move, slowly things would improve I guess as it warmed them & then normal operation would be restored.

Cheers both,
Skagg, after looking at a number of egr posts on the forum I’m starting to suspect them, your and a number of other posts seem to share the same symptoms, and it would explain the revs, think next time it happens I’ll let it sit at idle for a minute or two and see if warming up has an affect, don’t think I want to blank hem and risk an MOT hit, but they’re cheap enough to replaces and thanks to the guys on the forum, there plenty of “how to’s” so may do them myself one Sunday If the issue carry’s on.2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Blank the eggs’ but leave the pipes in place, you’ll be fine. So just to clarify you’ve got full throttle depressed but not the associated revs?visiting from www.rrsport.co.uk

Hope not going to confuse matters, my V8 did this a couple of times during lockdown.
My car is parked facing down a 5 deg drive.
It diddn't like being left ignored so threw a sulk. LPG injector relay also went south but permanently.Series 1 V8

That’s right Stevepd, tops out at around 1200rpm.
I did clean out my MAP the other week, was caked in crap so egr butterfly’s may be the same? Any way I can also lean them without stripping them out?2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

So got an Autel AP200 diagnostic tool of Amazon to read the codes (pretty good for the money ) showing a "P045C-00 fault Exhaust gas re circulation B control circuit - Low" Fault, so looks like one of the EGRs has had enough (B=passenger side i think?), think I'm going to go for blanking them off but leave everything in place, I know the butterfly valve has to come out, and the patch applied, but when leaving the pipes in place, only the valve end needs blanking? as I notice the blanking kits come with blanks for both end but you cant blank the top and leave the pipe in.
Anyone know anyone who's around the North Birmingham area that has an IID and can drop the patch on? (beer available)

You can refit the pipes with the blanking plates fitted, you just can't reconnect the pipe at the throttle body, but who's going to see that? The throttle butterfly has to come out to prevent the PCM closing it for EGR gas re-distribution. Otherwise, without the throttle blanking plates and the butterfly still in place you will be drawing un-metered air into the engine.
You can fit the patch later, it just means the EML will be on until that happens. As an aside note, if your car is parked on a slight slope it might be worthwhile to see if it is inclined to roll back on its own once the handbrake has been released!
If it doesn't, I'd be taking a closer look at your handbrake. yµ (idµ - eAµ) ψ=mψ

Cheers Profsr, does roll forward when it happens and won’t rev in neutral either. Got the Egr light on now and the egr low fault code so betting money on the EGR. Gonna blank them but leave pipes in place and see how it goes, will live with the EML light until I can get the software patch sorted.2008 HSE Stornoway Grey
