2008 D3 oil pump cam belt or timing belt tensioner? |
|
Hi All,
I’ve got the usual list of jobs and upgrades to go through on my D3 and the one niggle in the back of my head is the oil pump issue with the belt tensioner.
Can someone confirm whether it needs checking / replacing when the cam belt is changed? Or the timing belts?
Car is at 95,000 miles so expecting to have to do the cam belt shortly, timing belts were changed in 2015 at 73,000 miles when it had its 105k service done. So I suspect I’ll either get the chance to have it replaced soon, or I’m living on extremely borrowed time
Does anyone also know whether you can get a borescope in to check the oil pump cover version without stripping the engine right down?

Thanks Pete,
I’ll wait for the rimming from the rest of the guys for the pleb mistake
so that leaves me in a quandary then, belts aren’t due for changing for another 40k miles, but will want to check the oil pump to be on the safe side, was hoping to get them check during existing work. 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Your year of car is the one with the most risk of a older style oil pump being fitted, I would not risk it, change as soon as possible.
Unfortunately there is no way of checking fully without removing the front belt cover to check it.

Thanks Flack, I know it should be checked just didn’t want to strip the front down to do it just for that was hoping to be able to get a camera in for a quick look see? Something like this
