Cam Belt Change

I'm just about to buy a 2014 Discovery 4 SE with 76000 miles on it. I enquired about the cambelt replacement as I see online it says at the 7th service or 112000 miles. The service manager says most people wait till nearer the 112000 before having it changed. Any opinions would be welcome.

He’s saying that as he doesn’t want the expense. You’re rolling the dice, me, I’d do it now and it’s done for the next seven years or 112k

Cambelt replacement is the earlier of 7 years or 112k miles.

In your position I would make it a requirement of purchase that the cambelt is changed.

Totally agree, most folk who care / understand their cars would get it done early, also ask him if the auto box needs a fluid change and see what he says - preventive maintenance = longer life.

Hi,
as already said by IanM the Manufacturer states it is due at 7 years or 112k which ever comes first.

alternative action, which would be my preferred choice,
reduce what you value the D4 at by £1k and then have the work done yourself by a garage You know or Trust at a later date, after a few weeks or months when you have found out what Other jobs want doing, some things you only find after living with the car a bit Rolling Eyes
Like getting the box flush done, again as said ^

If they do the belts before you buy it make sure you get an itemised receipt showing all belts as some dont change the fuel pump belt on the back of the engine (allegedly some say Laughing )

^^^^
as above.
I bought mine from a car supermarket, with a full service history but no evidence of cambelt being done. They don't service cars at all but will do if you pay them a bit extra for the car.
As mine was on the cheaper end anyway (due to their no frills, valet and MOT only policies) I drove it away and got a full service and belt change done by LR the following month. (and even they allegedly didn't change the fuel pump belt either but invoiced it anyway Whistle )

Best way is to tell whoever does it that you want the removed components left on the back of the car!
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.
