Out and about in Mid Wales

"D3Steve" and I spent much of yesterday driving lanes in Mid Wales: me in my RRS; Steve in his 110 - it's OK to post about this on this forum as we both do own D4s but prefer not to inflict this sort of trip on them. After a wet and foggy start, the weather improved and opened-up the amazing views. It has to be said that the water levels in the Elan Valley reservoirs were remarkably low.

The first puncture of the day followed us driving south along the northern part of Strata Florida that has re-opened, necessitating the first wheel-swap of the day. The next part of Strata Florida wiped-out both front tyres, one through a damaged sidewall and another with a stick between the wheel and tyre. Despite taking two spares, a third puncture was something of a problem - rectified by Steve.

Not much interesting video (squeaking that I think is the ARB bush and I'm about worried about the sound of the gearbox! Shocked )

3 punctures Shocked slightly nervous now as myself and two friends are making a weekend of it there next week... I only have one full size spare and the silly space saver Whistle 2007 D3 SE - currently having all sorts bolted to it...
Series I 1953 - original, unmolested and well loved
FL1 Diesel - gone - not missed...
FL1 Petrol - gone - some good memories...
Series II - gone but not forgotten

Just bad luck. I’ve done the SF with 3-4mm tread on 19” Pirelli ATR’s. I was with 2 Defenders and a Jeep. We didn’t have one puncture between us. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Hope so! Both my mates have defenders and we have a Hi Lift between us - they do seem excited at the thought of spannering in the field, however having changed a wheel before ‘off piste’ I don’t share their enthusiasm. I suppose I could make a brew whilst they do it for me Very Happy 2007 D3 SE - currently having all sorts bolted to it...

I've done Strata Florida on 'normal' tyres and not had a problem. Some of the slates can be quite sharp and when wet cut like glass. SF still isn't fully open and the bit that is open probably hasn't seen a lot of traffic, so I have probably just done you a favour by collecting lots of sharp things hidden in the puddles! Very Happy
