Dumb Wheel Question

I have a space saver spare wheel for my current car and, while it’s not ideal, it’s better than slime.

That got me to thinking that if I buy a full size alloy and tyre, how do I get round the rotational tyre issue since it’ll only fit one side.

Then I remembered that on my D4 I also had a full size spare (remember when they only cost £120 as an option).

So what am I missing about rotational tyres that makes a full size spare fit all 4 wheels ?

Are the tyres on the car rotational? Not usual ISTR.

Assuming you mean directional then it depends on the brand. The tyres perform optimally in the correct direction but still work in the other ... otherwise you can't reverse Laughing

Its my undrestanding that directional tyres, if run the wrong way round just get a bit warm, so ideally you dont want to run them for huge distances, but to get you home, the spare fitted the "wrong way round" isnt going to be a problem. A tip I was given was to fit the tyre to the spare rim as though it was going on the kerb side (passenger side in the UK) as this is the side where most punctures occur due to picking up crap in the gutter.
