Air Chisel / Rear upper arms query

Hi,

I have a battery 18v SDS drill and a massive Lidl coded SDS drill and various SDS chisel bits. Will I have the space available to use these to help remove the rear upper arms? I'm doing this job on Friday.

I'm looking at various air chisel options on Amazon but don't fancy the look of any of them. I found out tonight that my brother threw away the sykes-pikavant air chisel I bought specifically for the this job, and he had chose not to hand over multiple times!!! He said "he didn't know what it was"....

Any insight appreciated, even on pathological narcissism.

Thanks,

Andy

Use a small angle grinder with a "slim jim" cutting disc and cut the arms off at the bushings. You will then be able to get the same disc in to cut the bolts!

Use hacksaw blade by hand, takes about 10mins per side! You won't get those big power tools near it.! 😉

In all likelihood I will now use this method. 18 months ago when I anticipated this job, I was lured in by the video showing these being easily removed with the impact tool...

I also have a reciprocating saw but it is 18v, now corded. I'll get the job done!

Cheers,

Andy

With body off you will have ample room. Normally, forward bolts will unscrew and come out easily. The tough one is rear bolt, often stuck to the bush inner sleeve. The outer (arm to hub) bolt may also be seized in the rose joint. I have used an SDS drill a couple of time to hammer these out with body on.

Last week I replaced an upper arm (body off) using a regular hacksaw to cut both ends of the rear bolt. it was surprisingly easy compared with limited space in a wheel arch.

Added few pics and other work with body off,
