Crazy price on 2007 tdv6 engine at car breaker?

My isn broken yet but I sat and looked for parts at swedens part breakers bildelsbasen.se
Found an engine for 3500£. 220.000km. Isnt that an overprive?
Every carpart breaker is overpriced here for land rover parts anyway. Its cheaper or at least equal probably to buy new parts from UK.

Funny U saying about crazy prices , engine at 206,000 miles @5k

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Engine-Complete...c36a7571af

Then there’s a complete S type jag with 120,000 miles for £2k , imagine u could make that back and more breaking it

When i needed one, i did a search and found Quite a few, totally different priced..

Ranged from 5k with 2xxK miles (LR) till... 1,6k with 68K miles...(jag s that is)

Guess which one i bought 8)

Just look in More “unexpected” places.. not necessarily online! Call around.... jag breakers are by far Cheaper than LR one’s
 Best regards
Harold

£5k for a 200k mileage engine😂. Dear lord. Where’s the gold?
Yes, seems a bit cheaper to buy a whole car for salvage.
Are the jaguar’s engine prone to fail too or is it only (ofcourse?!) the land rover verision?

Basic engine is the same...

These engines are not necessarily prone to fail.... imho....

It happens .... at a certain %... since there are a lot LR’s around, the numbers are or look higher than other engine’s but are they?

From what i know now.. the design of the oil pump is not great in respect of pressure at low TPM..(in combination with the mainbearing design not the “best” combination)
@ Iddle and starts that is... since LR’s tend to do more short runs or “iddle” like runs Than for instance a business driven JAG they (JAG) suffer less from this problem...
The JAG is also a lot lighter than a LR, so less stress..

Bottom line: keep your oilpump young..... maybe even fit a upgraded one (russian) To a good engine and i think you can be safe a long time..
 Best regards

Hi Harold

Must admit the next time my belts are due I’ll get the extra 19.5 oil pump fitted , think there around £400 plus haven’t seen much feedback from then yet

Plus massive respect for rebuilding ur engine , wouldn’t know where to start with such a complicated engine Bow down

depending on the mileage you have to cover then, but if the mileage on your pump is now more than 100K, do it shortly, and do the belt and rollers then also, can save you a lot in the end..

If people are selling them for that price and people are buying the prices will remain high.

I personally think Harrold did the right thing buying a low mileage Jag engine and rebuilding the bottom end, an engine with 200k could go bang as soon as you fit it or last another 500k but you will never know until it fails

Many thks as always , mine is just under 100,000 , owned it since 2016 and at the time because I didn’t know the full history I had done

Oil pump
All the rollers/ tensioners
Front timing / aux belt plus rear fuel belt
Had the Water pump done at the same time
Crankshaft bolt
New oats fluid

So didn’t realise have 3 x years left before it needs doing again , plus every year , regardless of mileage I always do a full service , fuel filter every other year , would rather do that for peace of mind

Must admit have done engine work on my old triumph 2 x litre vitesse but cheated by having Turner engineering do the block and cyl head , then I put it all back together , ah the joys of having all that room around the engine
