Engine System Fault at 130 kph |
|
Hi,
I've just bought a disco 3, its a 2005 TD V6 S Auto with 57K on the clock. We've just noticed that when we accelerate up throught the gears on the change from 3rd to 4th at about 125/130 kph the system bleeps and shows engine system fault, then the car goes into Limp home mode and special functions disabled message appears. If at that point I move the gear selector into Neutral, then back to drive, the car will then accelerate as normal and keep accelerating.
This only happens in that scenario so far, other than that the car drives normally all of the time.
The car is fully land rover serviced at James edwards in Warrington.
Have any of you heard of this fault before? I thought I'd better ask the community before the local Land rover garage tries to feed me some baloney. It is 2 weeks out of its LR warranty so i'll be trying to purchase the extended warranty for it .
Many thanks

Possibly a gear selector cable adjustment required. Its been reported on other occasions, but not with the symptoms you describe. Did you buy it from a dealer? if so, take it back.

Thanks for your reply, I didn't get it from a dealer, I bought it through the trade. Reason i bought it was that the previous owner has cherished it and looked after it so it is a very nice car, just this one problem that only really came apparent when accelerating! I'll look into the gear accelerator cable and if/when i get it to a dealer hopefully they will be able to diagnose it.
Whihc was another great reason to join here, the dealer recommendations are invaluable.
Many thanks again.

Just a thought. Check your air filter, mine got an engine fault when I may have got some water in it. When it finds it difficult to get enough air it will put engine into safe mode.
Yours is a different scenario so probably a different issue. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

I had a similar symptom when I accelerated up to freeway speed. I stopped and turned the ignition off and back on and all was OK. It was a turbo problem and it was replaced under warranty, thankfully 2013 D4, E-diff, Vision pack

Well, car is back from Hillendale who were fantastic for service, couldn't fault them at all. I had 3 niggles with the car which they sorted FOC.
The diags showed that the car had either a faulty fuel pump OR a dirty fuel filter, they changed the fuel filter on the 60k service and this morning the car didn't show the fault. Before the service I could replicate this on demand within 10 minutes of the car starting up.
Hopefully fixed but will reserve judgement for a few weeks.
