I was eventually forced to replace my tires (at 20 thou, not impressed), the Wrangers were loosing bits of its thread on gravel.

I must say, the Grabbers are not much difference to the wranglers in road noise, waiting for it to settle in to comment on roadholding.

For all those that recommended it, thanks for the advices.

Which dealer did you get them from and what size did you get?

I am currently running a set of AT2's - 255/55/18's that came off my Disco 2 but need to make a plan with a new set later in the year?

eeeek Shocked

Just to warn you, the load rating on the 255/55/18 Grabber is too low for the Disco3. Should be a 112 load rating for the 18" (111 on the 17 and 19, though I've no idea why), while the tyre you have has a rating of 109. 90kg per corner too low, so a bit Confused if it all goes wrong.

AT2's are blooming good though Thumbs Up

Did some on-line browsing yesterday - cannot believe how limited the choices are, even for the standard 17" rims on the S model.

The official size is 235/70 17". This size not available at all in BFG. Could find Perelli, Continental - not interested in any of them.

Will search today for Coopers and Bridgestone.

Please tell me what AT2's are

I read many comments on this site regarding the tires, and it has been noted that with other vehicles as well, the tires sizes chosen as OE's are always very odd sizes, suppose this is the manufacturers way of trying to creating a monoply for certain tires.

They all need to send a common standard, make life for the consumer much easier.
This is not the frst time I encountered problems with tires, thanks to the guys here, i managed to get what was suitable.

I agree with Deon, it is difficult to find what u want.

General Grabber AT2's. Size fits the 18" rim perfectly 255/60/18, load rating is high enough. Tread looks very similar to BFG. I think you may get them in 17" but not sure. Distributed by Continental in SA.

That's the one. I ended up driving away with three 255/60 and one 255/55 (load rating too low) when they were first fitted. Neither I nor the tyre place noticed, but the car did as it wouldn't shift up from 4th and showed brake error messages. Because the 255/55 was the correct size for the D2, some people on here have been sold 4 x 255/55 for their D3s in error by well meaning tyre centres. Just something to be aware of.

I've not used mine in sandy conditions, but those who went to Morroco were very complimentary about the way the AT2 performs in dusty/sandy conditions. Thumbs Up

I think it is more tyre manufacturers who cannot get rid of stock and disposes of it through a special deal with motor manufacturers Exclamation

Ok - the closest I get to the ""ideal" size of 235/70/ 17 is 265/65 or 265/70 in AT2, Bridgestone Dueler and Cooper Discovere ATR.

I will welcome the broader footprint, but do not know if it will interfere with steering , etc. Question

According to this http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp?action=submit the 65's are a much better bet than the 70's.

Deon, I fitted the 265 x 70 x 17 (BFG)
Although bigger it fits without rubbing and the extra 1.6 inch is great for offroading.

Tiaan - do you have this size for your spare as well - does it fit into the crevice ?

Unfortunately the 235 x 70 x 17 is too big for the crevice. So i have a second spare fitted with the standard wrangler HT to use in case of emergency. I only fit the 265 x 70 x 17 spare on the roof rack when leaving town.

Eish ! - this type of thing is too much for this "boere brein"

The SE has 18" rims and the HSE 19" - I am sure their spares must be the same - how do they fit underneath the vehicle of which, I'm sure, should be the same on all models ?

Or is the overall size of the wheels (combination of rim size and tyre size) all the same ?
