Paint / body shop

I have just done what I thought would be a straightforward minor bodywork repair using pukka LR rattle cans and this has happened. Stornoway Grey seems to have at least a couple of shades! I've compared the top of the can to the rest of the car and it looks nothing like the existing paintwork. Anyone got any ideas as to why? Thanks in advance of any help.

Don't forget that the cars paintwork would have aged, whereas the rattle can is new that is why paint shops make paint up to suit current aged colour. Some paint shop will make up a can to match your vehicle.

I had thought it might be that but the colour difference is so stark and there seems to be no variation in the fading over the car or between the bodywork and bumpers. Strange.
I think you're right though, find a bodyshop or car place that will match to existing and start again!

Spray some on a piece of plastic und then compare against paint under the bonnet or door apertures as the are finished paint that never sees much daylight - it could be poorly mixed and isn’t the right shade paint

A good paint supplier will have a tool that reads the colour, shade and amount of metalic fleck and make you spray tins of the right colour.
I have had simular issues in the past where Halfords mixed me the correct colour but it was totaly wrong shade when applied, i used a local paint company who took measurments from my car and then mixed the paint for me and when polished you couldnt tell the difference. I seem to remember it worked out cheaper as well.

Also worth checking if the paint shp can supply you with the 2pack clearcoat as it is much better than standard rattle cans

Cheers mate. Struggling to find a paint shop that'll match though!
