D4 2012 Servicing and Oil Vacuum- INSTRUCTIONS PAGE 2
THE WRITE UP IS ON PAGE TWO. Hope it can be of assistance to someone.
Evening men,
As an amateur that has 0 car maintenance experience, I'm beginning to enjoy learning a few skills. So far I've wired in some spot lights and a facelift. Now I thought I'd give servicing a go.
I've just had this oil vacuum delivered, has anyone got any advice or tips for me?
I'm planning on buying the servicing kit from AF and adding things like grease for the bonnet catches etc to do a really thorough job.
Things I'll be searching for and youtubing will be, flushing? the coolant, extracting the oil using this pump and fuel filter changes.

I personally would't use a vacuum to suck the oil out. Its really not that difficult to drain from the bottom, and the Disco dipstick tube is particularly long and twisty.
Apart from that, have a go!Richard

Yes i use one, same as, but mine connects to an airline to save pumping!
No mess, takes every drop out, and saves getting underneath
Great for all engine fluid removal not just oil
Just make sure oil is hot and it will suck out much faster
Last tip when your finished sucking oil out suck some solvent or wd40 down the suction tube so its clean for storage ....................................................................................................

D4 doesn't have a dipstick, but it has a vacuum pipe.
Also, once the under shield is fitted, makes removing the sump plug more effort. I was thinking of doing it the drain plug method every other time, that way id be changing the plugs too.

So I'm in the process of buying the parts required now.
As its the first service since LR fitted a new engine (and I changed all diff/transfer/gearbox to reset those too) its due an A service.
Other than checking operation etc, these are the items I need to purchase or have questions about:
Replace pollen filter
Seems simple enough
Replace brake fluid (Every 3 years)*
I'll have to check when this was last done
Drain fuel sedimentor
Is this covered by changing the fuel filter itself?
Renew engine oil and filter
Using my new suction pipe I'll extract the oil. I may undo the sump plug too afterwards just for practice as i'll have the undershield off anyway.

I'll follow this video, can anyone suggest an Oil filter removal tool?
Check/top-up brake and PAS fluid
Again, seems simple enough to check the reservoirs and top up?
Adjust the electric park brake shoes
Something I'm not familiar with. What exactly would need adjusting?
Thanks all, any and all advice welcome, no matter how obvious or basic you may think it. I've no experience with this kind of thing but I'm learning quickly. Any uncommon tools I may not have thought of too?

Vacuuming the oil out is quick and easy and effective. Some people fear "sludge" wont be sucked out - they have bigger problems if they have sludge in their sump. for the oil filter, you will need a 30 or 32mm socket/spanner - almost sure its a 32mm. You will also need a pipe of certain dimensions to pop the filter insert out of the housing - there is a pretty good thread on here with pictures. Edit: Here it is: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic106051.html
Depending on your MY, you may need to reset the oil change indicator - I think its to do with DPF fitment - if you have one, you need to reset.
Brake shoe adjustment - do a search for Bodsy's brake bible - all is in there.

^^^^The T/SDV6 oil filter housing is different - that one is for petrol engines

can be used on any car with a dipstick
used mine many many times on D3s / audi/bmw/mercs without problem or mess
also very helpful to remove residual oil in the filter housing once filter removed
D4 no dipstick then drain using traditional sump bolt
I see the confusion, it was an oil filter removal tool recommendation the OP was after - he already has the oil vacuum extractor!
