self levelling
Can someone explain the self leveling function.
My carpark is a little uphill making the front wheels stand higher than the rear wheels.
What happens after the car has not moved for a day or two is that the front of the body is lowered to a low position. Both wheels.
When starting and backing out it raises to normal height.
My mechanic changed the front air struts with no difference. And he says that this behavior is not what the self leveling does.
Tried to remove fuse 26 and no lowering occured.
Is this normal? If not what can be wrong?Discovery 4, MY2011, TDV6 Auto

It appears to be working correctly...when parked, the system will wake up after 2 hours (and at defined periods beyond that) and try to level the motor within set tolerances.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Does the slope the car is sitting on matter? As I understand it, the level is merely a function of the angle of the suspension arms moving the arms on the potentiometers? I thought the suspension just adjusted itself until it achieved the required signal for the height selected, from each potentiometer? In this case, if the vehicle was stood on a 45deg incline, this would make no difference to the car, otherwise it would always be trying to level itself to horizontal, which wouldn't go well!
I may have understood the system wrong, so please forgive me if I have. Rob

As I understand it, it's not self leveling only height adjusting. Obviously if you put load in the back, it will try to 'level' itself, but in reality is only trying to achieve a determined height for the rear axle (or front if you managed to load the front).
I dont believe there is any 'level' sensors in the system.Richard

or does the car have 2 self-levelling modes - moving and stationary ?.

I agree, which is why parking on a slope shouldn't change the behavior of the suspension. The car should remain at the same angle as the road surface?
My 15k mile D4 doesn't drop at all when parked long term. My 2005 L322 drops after a couple of days. I always assumed the L322 has a small leak somewhere (and it favors dropping the rear).

If you read the suspension Description and Operation for the D3 \ 4 in Topix you will note that the vehicle will attempt to level as I have described above
It is very similar to this for the D5:
Quote:
Periodic Wake-Up Mode
When the vehicle is parked, the CHCM 'wakes up' two hours after the ignition was last switched off and once every twenty four hours thereafter. The vehicle height is checked and if the vehicle is not level within a pre-set tolerance, small downwards height adjustments may be made automatically.

Hi guys,
seems to be some confusion about the "self levelling".
My D3 does not sink in the front when parking uphill. It is just the D4.
As it is lowering on both wheels front could some valves be faulty?
Or is the "self levelling" faulty.
By the way, what does it mean "is not level within a pre-set tolerance, small downwards height adjustments may be made automatically"?Discovery 4, MY2011, TDV6 Auto

It is, of course, possible you may have a leak on the front section if, for example, you find the front has gone all the way down to the bump stops.
If it is just self-levelling then what it means is that the motor wakes up and asks the system 'am I level' and if not it lets out some air to try and make it so. It can only do this to a certain degree though based on the gradient.21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

What does the fact that when i remove fuse 26 it does not sink mean?Discovery 4, MY2011, TDV6 Auto

Try turning the car around to see if it still lowers on the front.
Removing the fuse proves it is not a leak and the 'system' is self levelling.Gone 2016 Landmark D4

My D3 is constantly parked on a hill pointing down or up
Once parked other than the initial break of wind 🤪 occasionally it never moves. It can be left for 2-3 days and still the same. If it’s dropping like you say I’d assume you have a leaking block possibly the front one. But could be a couple of things.
Does it take the compressor long to raise it?
How long is the compressor running for?
The only real other thing to do is get some soapy water and explore.
Cheers

@buns
He has said if he pulls the fuse it does not do it so that rules out air leaks I think?Gone 2016 Landmark D4
