Split manifold- ok to drive on? |

My left bank manifold is cracked and it’s going to be fixed in 2 weeks time. The car drives, albeit slowly! I can get it up to 70 on a flat motorway by using the cruise control and command shift to keep revs low.
Any sort of hill, it faults and we drop back to 30-40 mph.
I have my iid hooked in and my phone running on the clear faults screen, my passenger hits the clear faults if I need to climb a hill. Most of the time I can drive it with the fault on the dash.
Am I doing further damage by driving it? Is the manifold likely to fracture completely with other consequences?
I wish I could fix it now, but I’ve done my back in and can’t lean over an engine for hours on end, so it had to go to the garage, they are all very busy.

I'd say yes ... the engine management will get confused and you'll have oily mess everywhere but it shouldn't do any real harm.
Is the manifold split where you can see it ? Clean it up and try and seal it? Still involves leaning over it but for less time. .

Its frustrating driving it but with a light throttle you can mange pretty well with it. As a temporary fix, my local indi glued it. Its been fine now for 8 weeks. I did wonder about using Sika EBT and a mesh as a temp fix. EBT sticks to anything and is incredibly strong with high temp tolerances. If reinforced with a mesh I think it will hold well. I can’t see the split, I’ll have a close look today. It seems to be under the foam insulation around the injectors. Lot of oil there.
I have a hot glue gun, worth a go I suppose.
How much pressure is the inlet tract under when the turbos are boosting?

I would rather try Loctite sealant SI 5660, it is good for temps up to 220 or 250 degrees Achim

I’d be a bit concerned about glue getting into where it shouldn’t and causing more problems... my LH went a month or so ago but I managed to get it fixed quite quick.
Whatever you do keep a close eye on oil level and keep it topped up. RLD CB Bracket

You cant do anymore damage as its only a warning telling you that something is wrong, just keep clearing the faults, I did exactly the same when my turbo was playing up on holiday.
The only thing to watch for is if the split gets to big then you might risk burning with the hot gas.

Induction side shouldn't be too hot, should it ?
If you're concerned about glue getting through the crack then try tape. .

If you continue to use it with it split, you can get a dpf blocked message & have to reset everything & potentially clean the dpf.
Most times it's ok, but continued driving causes issues.

I would say not to use it, unless someones life depends on it.
My thinking is, if the egr system is still fitetd and working the inlet charge is going to be hot hot hot?

I know lots of garages are max'ed out at the mo' as lots of work was delayed by last lockdown, then lots of people bought 2nd hand cars to avoid using public transport … and for now at least they are able to take the cars to the garages.

It’s going in on the 18th. In the meantime it’s on minimum use. Luckily with lock-down there is not much need to travel.
