They just proved you can put anybody in a Merc and they would win. Car not driver.

Surely couldn't have George outpace Bottas in his 1st race, in a car that doesn't fit him...
My thoughts exactly. What with him telling interviewers that he had to wear shoes a size too small etc.
No, winning would not have done.

Whatever the reasons, Russel has shown that he is a RACER like Hamilton. He caught and overtook Bottas and a few more cars and was on track to catch and pass Perez when he was called in for a puncture. My personal opinion, but the lad has shown that he is capable of being up there with Hamilton. If he has the chance to spend more time getting used to the Mercedes I'm sure victories would come his way even up against Hamilton! 2007 Disco3 2.7 tdv6 SE

Which goes to show how little you know about F1.
On the other hand, Geoff at Drym evidently does know his stuff. An ex-Disco3 / FFRR owner ......

Winning would absolutely have done.
Mercedes are facing a massive contract cost negotiation with Lewis at the moment.
If they have George win his first GP in the Merc, outclassing Valtteri, then that's a good bit of leverage.
Indeed, they could say:
We've got the best car; it'll be the best car next year; George is plenty good enough and....by the way, he'll race for us for 1/20th of what you're asking!
There's part of me wanting Merc to do that, although I'd absolutely want to see Lewis racing in 2021...maybe in Albon's seat! Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

Agree with that re Cheko.
I’d love to see a driver swap. Russel to Mercedes, Hamilton to Williams. That’d be fun. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

yup Lewis to red bull, see how good he really is against Max in the same cars.
Cheko in the Merc with Russel - bye-bye slow boat.
Hopefully a better McLaren for Danny Ric, still highly rate him.
The others not bothered.
Great result for Cheko

I'd love to see a series where they are all in the same car, something like a Formula Ford, and are allocated them randomly. It'd be interesting to see who the real drivers were. D4 HSE EU6 (Known as Jeeves)

I've read that the issue in the contract talks isn't about the money but about image rights and the like. F1 drivers basically sign over their image rights and the teams and FOM make plenty from using them. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

He'd do very well. Hamilton has matured in to the complete F1 driver. He has the full set of tools in the box. Max might be quicker over a single lap but Hamilton has experience and his wide skill set to win races.
It would be a Prost vs Senna type situation with Hamilton in the Prost guise, Max in the Senna role. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk
