Hi All
Had my first MOT today since I bought the D3, it has failed on the following:
Suspension arm pin or bush excessively worn offside rear upper.
I have been out and I can’t feel any play in it, which of the 3 bushes is this referring too? How easy is the bush to replace looking at it it doesn’t look too bad. Should I replace the bushes in pairs on either side?
Had minors on the following:
Play in steering rack inner joints near side front
Play in steering rack inner joints offside front
Drive shaft joint constant velocity boot severely deteriorated offside rear outer
Any advice on repairing the minors please. Discovery 3 XS 2008 Manual Zambezi Silver

Has anyone replaced the bushes instead of fitting new arms? I have fitted bushes to previous cars. Discovery 3 XS 2008 Manual Zambezi Silver

I replaced my bushes but would just buy complete arms next time.
They are a complete pig to get the arms off. its far easier to cut them up so you can get the angle grinder to the securing bolts, then replace everything with new.
It could also be the bush in the knuckle thats worn and you will need a bush puller set to replace those.
Dont want to put you off but this is worth watching

You make it much harder on yourself if you try to rotate the seized nut clockwise (20mins 30 seconds in) or using saw blades with grit for ceramics not teeth for metal

I have replaced a few rear arms with bushes. It is likely that you will need an electric saw or angle grinder to cut each end of the mounting bolt above the driveshaft. If the bolt is not seized on the bush, arm replacement is relatively easy.
The outer arm to hub (rose) joint may also have a seized bolt, but enough room to use an air chisel or SDS hammer so cutting probably not necessary.
Make sure you buy arms with new bolts. Chris

Should you do both sides or can you do them individually?
Could I do one side to get it through the MOT then the other side after Christmas maybe? Discovery 3 XS 2008 Manual Zambezi Silver

I would do both as you will need to get the alignment done afterwards

Yes you will or use a couple of large sockets and some m12 threaded bar.
If your having your alignment done its worth replacing your tear tie rods as they will be siezed and there not expencive.

You can change the track rods on the steering rack. They are not overly expensive or hard to do. Discovery 4 3.0 HSE 2010 year. I like it a lot. Now with winch 😂
