Air Jacks

Show of hands please .

Who has any experience with these (D3 specific) and which one do you have

Thanks
Heine

PS Spoke to Anthony (baben) earlier and he mentioned that the Front Runner one only gets supplied with one connector - so how do you block the other exhaust . The Takla one has additional bungs (purchased seperately) but doesn't come in a bag and is rounder which makes the car more unstable .

I have a TAKLA. its got an exhaust inflator (but the TAKLA 2nd exhaust bung is useless - talk to No$h, he made some excellant bungs) TAKLA also has an air valve for inflation from a compressor.

Down side of my TAKLA is that the bung fits inside the exhaust pipe so the black soot gets all over you.... even worse in the wet

Also, mine got a leak on the seem after 4 inflates. Does raise the D3 well though...

put my takla in an old pop-up-tent bag and strapped it to the roof rack Thumbs Up

The Takla is great, although I have found (as Dunc has) a tiny leak on one of the seams, although nowhere near enough to cause me any concern (it would take hours for the car to lower noticably).

EDIT: Of course you need to make sure you chock the car.... I managed to snap the hose connector on mine when I failed to adequately jack the car and it rolled forward off the jack Embarassed The bayonet fitting does seem to be a potential weak point in the hose and you need to look after the silicon washer that keeps the hose sealed. I remove my washer after each use and keep it in the puncture repair kit that comes with the jack.

Frontrunner Air-Crane and the ARB X-Jack seem to be the other ones people are using. No experience of these I'm afraid.
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I got a cheap one from k-mart. Works well.
I do stick a rubber mat above below it when in use though. Given the price difference I would have to go through three of these for one of the expensive ones.
Got a test plug bung from plumbers supplys.

Dunno if you can buy easylift here?

Either Takla or FR is good enough. We have both, and have used them multiple times (more than 10x) without any failure.
I personally prefer the FR, because its rectangular, so you can arrange it to favour force in a particular direction whereas the round ones tend to bend over wherever they want to.

Take the attached pic as an example - we wanted the vehicle to be able to "flop" over the jack backwards but not to move sideways too much. It worked great, and we didn't cause any damage to the jack at all.

Doesn't look like much, but this dear friend of mine was up to the chassis in the sticky mud of Nata. Without an airjack and sand ladders, I suspect he would have had to sleep in the mud that night. We had little or no traction on the tow vehicle (my D3) despite having the best tyres you could wish for in that particular situation. (Methinks the mud at the midrand quarry is about the same Crying or Very sad)
After picking him up out of the poo with the jack, and inserting the ladders under the wheels (we did the front first) we were able to recover him without much bother. Took a load of headscratching though, and this type of recovery had never been described to me before. Something I will never forget though Thumbs Up

Atacama - any news on the bungs Question Question

Baben - heard the story, but first time I see the photo - am I mistaken is that a normal tow hitch your recovery strap is hooked on Question probably not a massive pull, but did the Pr Censored do not have a rear recovery point Question
