[For Sale] Petrol 5.0L V8 Land Rover Discovery 4 Import

RH drive Discovery 4 with the 5.0 L V8 370 bhp engine. As you all know these were never officially sold in the UK. This car has been imported from Japan, is a right hand drive and is fully registered in the UK. First registered in Japan September 2010, November 2019 is UK registered date. 62300 miles.

Apart from the joy of driving the quiet yet powerful petrol V8 this engine doesn't suffer from the crank issues of the diesel ones. Also benefits from cheap road tax, £265 per year, recent service including automatic gearbox double flush, transfer box oil and both diff oils.

Is stunning inside and out, paintwork and underside (one light scrape on compressor reservoir and this shows a little surface rust). Apart from this it is super clean underneath. No rust on chassis.

Has the same spec as any HSE model. Twin sunroof, internal TV, heated seats, 7 seats, etc.

New Pirelli Scorpion Zeros all round.

Good V8 Disco 3s are hard to come by but this is the only petrol Discovery 4 around (excluding the armoured ones).

I did have to replace the Sat Nav screen but it is now working as expected including with all TV channels.

SOLD

Located just outside Belfast near both airports and handy for ferry transfers to Liverpool or Cairnryan. Further pictures or questions can be answered.

United Kingdom 2016 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 Landmark LE Auto Waitomo GreyDiscovery 4

Service history - full JLR?

Why are you selling it so soon after acquiring it?

Mileage ? Is this warranted ?

Is every thing to UK spec? Speedo & odometer in miles, EU compliant lights..etc..

I have updated the ad with the mileage, 62,300 miles and a picture of the dash.

Service history is JLR up to 30,000km and then it appears to be a Nissan dealer although they have just put a stamp on the door pillar not filled out the book.

Dash is in English, miles for the odometer and digital speedo but kms for the needle.

I bought it too sell as I thought there were so many people unhappy with the Discovery 5, the crank issues of the Discovery 4 and reading everywhere about people wanting the v8 over here. A long slow process tbh as I started about this time last year. I have had it since the start of September but by the time I got it MOT'd, IVA'd and registered with the DVLA it was the last week of November, then it takes a month to appear on third party databases in order to advertise.

It is UK compliant and so I think it therefore is EU complaint, the IVA test it had to go through pre registration was extremely rigorous, curvature of mirrors, lights etc, was roughly 7 hours of testing.

As it has a UK license plate it is fully registered with the DVLA so it's a private car sale like any other at this point. Private sale so no warranty.

Thanks.

Have you looked at or costed changing the speedo to MPH?

I ask this as I have an MGB GT which I used extensively on the continent & to which I had fitted a KPH speedo which caused problems at MoT time.

This was more than 10 years ago so things may have changed, or testers don't notice!

In terms of MOT testers and DVSA and DVLA it is a requirement that there is a MPH speed readout on the dash. The car has the digital readout in MPH and the needle as KPH so it satisfies this. Its like motorbikes these days, they don't have a needle, just a digital readout. The car passed an MOT'd in September and this is valid until 23 September 2020 so I see no issue in any future MOTs.

I haven't costed or looked at changing the clocks as I imagine it is quite an involved job for what I see as very little gain, I do get that some people may prefer using the needle readout but if the digital is there it shouldn't be a major inconvenience and it satisfies the vehicle licensing requirements which is the main thing.

Are your MGB GT clocks solely KPH? I could see the MOT testers not liking this if it was the case.

Netherlands 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi SilverDiscovery 3

On the mainland in the Netherlands the ruling is this;
You need a Speedo, does not need to be specific kph or miles, just a speedo.. as long it is with a admission
from out of another EU country (like importing a UK car towards the Netherlands)

As long as you are able to determine how fast or slow you are traveling.... convert it in your head is enough...

Out of Europe, like here out of japan, as far as know the same, as we do import bikes from the US sometimes, and the get the proper license with mph dail alone...

Nice motor by the way!
 Best regards
Harold

I know I’m raising and old thread, but how much did this go for in the end? What’s the cost of importing one and did they do a D4.5 facelift V8? Wife says I can get back in a Disco but funds are seriously lacking at the moment, so just starting to plan what to go for. Fancy a V8 so thinking of this or an older D3 V8 as well.
Cheers
Nick

I think you may find that one was/is the only one in UK. Even Europe are 99% 3.0 diesel D4 AFAIK

You could be lucky and find an SCV6 in UK though but I bet you could count the number of those in UK on one hand and probably with fingers to spare

The highest numbers available of petrol Discovery will be D2 or D3

Cheers Rog,

I know of one other V8 4.4l. I had one lined up from a dealer in Bradford but he sold it to someone else in the end as I didn't act quickly enough sadly.

Regards,

Charlie

sorry didn't mean to rain on your parade Laughing

Your best bet may be to search for a D3 V8 on as later a plate as possible.

my daughter recently searched for a replacement for her BMW 1 series diesel and as she doesn't drive as many longer trips as she used to, and she and her bf now have a dog, she wanted a small petrol SUV to replace it.
She really struggled to find a smaller engine 1.2-1.6 petrol SUV that she liked but eventually settled on a 1.2 turbo Renault Kadjar which is the same as the Quashqai which she hates as they are filled with cheap plastic inside but the Kadjar is leagues away.

You didn't sir.

Already have a D3 V8 4.4l on a 54 plate but the mileage is creeping up and I use her to tow 3.5 tonne so it might be time to retire her!
