Good Afternoon all.
After some investigation I have discovered the water in my passenger footwell is coming from the very top of the drain tube by the sunroof. Is there a way to get to that without removing the roof lining?

Sadly, no.
There are four drains in total, so if you don't have time to fix it now then you might get away with plugging it at the sunroof opening for a while. Just make sure you park with your nearside nose uphill to force the rain to drain via the offside rear mostly 2022 BMW i4 M50. Bought Oct 2022. 10,200 miles and counting...

Have you checked it's not simply blocked? Use strimmer line to try to unblock it. There's a lot of infor on various techniques for dealing with this problem. If it's a front corner one, I haven't heard of anyone having to remove the headliner, but might be wrong.
See if anything here helps: (There's quite a lot of it):

Good luck and keep us updated.

You can pull the heading down in the affected corner by removing the windscreen pillar trim and the door seal around the door appature, remove the grab Handel and then pull the corner of the roof lining down. Probably help if you remove the pillar trim too. This is what I did to repair mine. Don’t bend the lining ! It’s tight but can be done

thanks for all the responses!
I believe it has come unattached or split up near the sunroof, when I removed the a pillar trim and poured water in it came straight through from the top.. i did try strimmer line, and a fair bit disappeared, so thinking it would just be split or loose!
Good to know that IO can lower the affected corner, was not looking forward to removing it all!

The pipe has a moulded rubber bend that just pushes on or pulls off the gutter of the sun roof, if someone has been vigorous with a wire it will come off and you will get wet feet, can be a pain to push back on. At the other end behind the wheel arch liner the pipe has a nipple on it that gets blocked- cut the nipple off
