I think Yargo is right ... from memory a D3 needs C3 oil, but as luck would have it that's on the same deal

For D4 owners, they only seem to be offering thir own brand C1 oil ... £18 for 2 litres Sad

I meant - does it have LR approval ?! Not all 5w30 are same. There are only handful engine oils which are approved by LR for use in 2.7d engines. And oil manufacturer saying "Recommends" or "Suitable for" does not mean its approved from LR. Don`t be fooled by brands and their marketing slang.

The “... approved by LR/JLR” and “... recommends Castrol” stuff is the same - marketing. It’s not that Castrol isn’t a reputable oil but that it’s a commercial arrangement to mention it in every context.

The oil doesn’t contain unicorn tears, pixie dust or unobitanium to make your vehicle run better. Thumbs Up

OEM approval is not same as brand saying "This oil is suitable for XXX engine" or "This oil is recommended for XXX engine". This is were lot of people get caught. And yes, oil is not milk, its very scientific actually, therefore correct oil should be used to avoid crying stories here about engine problems.

It is the best way to make sure you are using correct oil for your engine, ensure its best performance and longevity.

Approvals for correct oil for2.7d:

FORD WSS M2C-913B
or
FORD WSS M2C-913C
or
FORD WSS M2C-913D
or
STJLR 03.5003

Just because Castrol paid LR for advertising in user manuals, oil filler caps etc "Land Rover recommends Castrol", doesn`t mean Castrol is best/most suitable oil. BTW, it is most counterfeited oil on the planet. Only buy it from reputable sources.

The oil originally referenced in this thread does meet WSS-M2C913-C which is backwards compatible with WSS-M2C913-B.

The ACEA C3 oil is needed for vehicles with DPF, so D3 2.7 liter engines 2007-ish onwards.

No, you’re correct from a certain model year forward.

you sure on the DPF cars ? D4 with DPF needs C1 with C2 "allowed" for top-ups and if no C1 can be sourced.

Well TBH I’m not sure if it needs high or low SAPS oil as I haven’t had a 2.7 engine.
