Spare tyre stuck in the wheel well
Just tried to winch the spare tyre down and it's stuck (suppose should be grateful it means noone can nick it). I can unwind the winch and it hits the deck (gently) but the tyre is still up there in the wheel well.
Should add I have only had it a few months and the previous owner had put General Grabber AT's (20in from memory) on, the tyre itself does look really tight up against the socket for the detachable tow bar.
Current ideas include trying the reach the valve to let some air out, wrap some straps over the top and pull down.
My question is, does this in anyway sound normal for replacement tyres (or could this be indicative of something else e.g. taken a hit in the rear before), is there a better way of releasing the tyre or are the above ideas likely to be successful?

Don't panic. It's not unusual. They can stuck in there pretty tight. Try deflating a bit. When you put it back in you could spray some dry lubricant (powder stuff) on the surfaces. I wouldn't use a liquid lubricant. It'll come out with a bit of beating. Keeping some tension on the winch, I'd suggest winding it back up a little to stop the tyre falling on your leg when it does come out and get a pry bar in there (gently as there are some plastic components).PAGODA

make sure you wind the winch back up, or stay well out of the way when it comes down

Also keep tension on the winch cable as you put it back up, or you will end up needing a new winch for the spare as it can easily snag without tension of a wheel hanging on itMust stop buying shiny toys....

Thanks all very much that's massively helpful, will definitely try not to end up with having a wheel where my kneecap used to be.

Not necessarily if you're a stubborn numpty and prepared to take it off, WD40 it to death and pull it apart like f**k (because you were annoyed enough with yourself for letting it happen in a rush 150 miles from home)
