terrain response display
There is always new things to learn.
D4 TDV6 3.0 Auto HSE MY2011.
Suddenly when in terrain response snow a little display with front wheels appeared now and then in the middle of the instrument cluster. Like on the 4x4 info screen but just front part of the car.
Can anyone explain this.
Cannot find anything in the manual.
Are there more hidden displays that can surprise me?Discovery 4, MY2011, TDV6 Auto

I believe it's just to inform you which way your wheels are pointing when you are sliding sideways down a frozen hill standing on the brakes, whilst trying to activate Hill Decent mode in a panic.
But I could be wrong.

In that display you will see the front wheels turn as you turn the steering wheel. I believe it also comes up for other terrain options. Mud and ruts for instance.Gary

galwaygreen, I think you are mistaken. Yes on the 4x4 display all that is displayed.
In the instrument cluster it is just the front wheels. I will check what more info is there. Cannot understand the idea though.
Changing to the RR LCD instrument would be a major change. Then it is possible to have a lot of displays behind the wheel. But as I am not an electronic engineer this is an expensive change.Discovery 4, MY2011, TDV6 Auto

It is just a driver aid to let you know which way your front wheels are pointing, in the cluster right in front of you. It can be useful if you are stuck!
I guess that as some specs do not have a nav screen and some of those that do have a nav screen do not have 4x4 info enabled, the instrument cluster steering angle is all they will see.

I understand.
But is really useless as the display is not visible behind the wheel.
The 4x4 display is bigger and very visible!Discovery 4, MY2011, TDV6 Auto

Do you mean it is blocked by the steering wheel? If so, I can’t say I’ve had that problem. It’s ok to glance at when you need it for me.

It comes up when you select low range as well.
It’s useful if you get out then back in, and forget which way the wheels are pointing!
Move the wheel if you can’t see the IPC. It has your coolant temp and fuel level on it as well!

The display is a "brain monitor"
Reminds you which way you intended to go when the road surface has over-riding control of vehicle direction

Yes you are all right.
But still it is just very small just showing the wheels direction.
And for me the steering wheel covers part of the instrument. I will take some pictures.
The 4x4 screen is so much bigger and more informative. Like that screen. The only fault is that the navigation is crap and cannot be updated without big cost. And this does not help as JLR has stopped keeping them uptodate. I have a MY2011 which can only be updated by JLR.
Thinking of a Tesla style screen which also can display the 4x4 screen. And the Range Rover L D instrument. It is only the cost that is prohibitive. Have to win on lottery or something.Discovery 4, MY2011, TDV6 Auto
