Current Problems

I have a few issues at the moment with my car which I thought I woud share with everyone.

Current problems are:

Lack of power when starting off, car often stalls in first gear. Sad

Light to moderate Smoke when accelerating. Confused

Vibration from engine? which can be felt throught the pedals at just over 2000 rpm. Crying or Very sad

Constant "Low Coolant" messages. even though there is plenty of coolant in the system.

Gear linkage getting stiffer by the day especialy when changing from 2nd to 3rd. But none of the gears are smooth. Almost feels notchy as they engage especialy when going up the box.

And finaly I still have got nowhere with the issue of the seats. The last my dealer told me was that I am the only person who has complained about the cloth seats, but we all know that this is not true.

I sent an email to my customer care contact at the dealer three weeks ago and never received a reply. As the car is now getting worse I will have to pay them a visit tomorrow. Crying or Very sad

I suspect that there is a problem with the engine mapping or the fuel system, but I can see that I am going to be without the car for a few days.

"Low coolant"

On the car I test drove last Saturday, every time I switched the ignition on a 'Low coolant" message appeared. The dealer claimed that this was due to a faulty sensor and that there had been a recall by LR for the problem. However, they hadn't got around to correcting the trouble on this (brand new) car.

Not very encouraging for a prospective buyer Sad

No, you're right... although maybe they were using the available replacements on customers vehicles first?
just a thought.....

By "but it soon disappears" do you mean as the engine/drivetrain warms up, or over a longer period of time as the they are run in?

it goes as the revs increase / decrease, seems like harmonic resonance

I had this problem, the coolant header tank needed replacing on mine, it was leaking and the sensor was faulty (think this is a common issue)

I also have this problem... and need the coolant header tank replaced.
It will be soon, when they get the appropriate parts in...

Same here - coolant header tank replaced with the added benefit if the washer filling tube now clips in properly and does not rattle Wink

Seats a common one. BN has many threads regarding them, inc 'that sinking feeling' one. Mine's an 'S' but same cloth seats, same prob.

If its specifically the sinking drivers seat scenario, my dealer says LR are aware and trying to come up with a solution (No doubt with BN's help) but nothing solid as yet. So don't hold your breath.

With reference to vibration

Is this a resonance in a panel or cabling?

On previous vehicles I have had to resort to cable ties under the bonnet and behind/under the dash to stop resonances.

The vibration has only started happening in the last three weeks. It definitely seems to be related to the engine. Before this the car had no vibration at all.

I have tried coasting in neutral at the same speed to ensure that it is not caused by the tyres. But I had already ruled this out as I get the vibration in 3rd 4th 5th and 6th gear at just over 2000 RPM.

the clutch (and obviously brakes) are hydraulic, therefore no cable connection, although they share the same resovoir, it is at it's worst when both clutch & brake are (lightly) pressed at the same time... leading to the conclusion that is is harmonic resonation, traditionally, this has been dealt with by impressing choke points in the fluid lines, typically on power steering pipes although it has been know on clutch lines....
