That is really, really impressive.
Less impressive were the BBC news anchors who were quizzing how, when it takes 11 minutes for the pictures to get back from Mars, did the pictures arrive just seconds after NASA celebrated it landing.
It took the Open Uni prof to explain that the celebrations happened 11 mins after landing...it still took the BBC folk a while for it to sink in.
Then when the prof said to look for the little dot above the crescent moon tonight to see Mars, the BBC woman said 'Perseverance is on that little green dot' to which the Prof almost exploded with "little orange dot!"
Obviously the newswoman got confused by the little green men who live there!Black 05 TDV6 HSE Auto

The 11 minutes is why "now" isn't universal. What is "now" to you or I is not "now" anywhere else. And the further away from the planet one looks, the more "not now" is the result. "Now" is everywhere else's "past".
I did stand out and look up at the little red dot whilst watching the live stream of the "landing", with the strange feeling that the probe was effectively an example of Schrodinger's cat - it had either landed successfully or it had failed and crashed but at the moment I was looking up humanity had no way of knowing which.
It's a bit mind bending if you stop and think about it. 8)Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

I did wonder the other day how share (and commodities and the like) trading would be impacted if there were colonisation of other planets.

If the lander missed it could have been Milky Ways all round. Eventually.

Hasn’t it been found as a bug splat somewhere on the surface?

Beagle 2 was found and appeared to have had a problem unfurling the solar panels. Unfortunately, the radio aerials were below the panels and it needed all of them to deploy to allow signals to be sent/received. So it actually landed successfully and appears to be intact but just suffered from a mechanical issue. Sad, as Pillinger died before Beagle 2 was discovered by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

The BBC has an excellent series on the Sounds web site with War of the Worlds being read as an audio book series. So not a Jeff Wayne / Hollywood version but the real thing. Starts here if anyone is interested:
