Whining noise

So I’ve noticed a a whining noise related to the revs ie the more you rev the car the more it seems to increase. It’s making the noise even when you rev it sat in park or when driving. Usually sounds worse when you let the revs off or going up through the gears after the auto box changes like when setting off. I’ve no performance issues at all or warning lights but this noise is there. I’ve been reading up and it could be the alternator bearings or the idler? Would this make a sort of whining noise that increased with rev speed? D4 2010 3.0 cheers

Hmm... happens to me too but only when SWMBO is in the car Laughing

On a serious note... I do have the same thing in my D3, need to look into it at some point but I am assuming its one of the pulleys / bearings on its way out. I'm not aware of anything else that would cause the noise

Had similar in my D3 recently, turned out to be the aux belt tensioner.

See my post here from last year:

https://www.disco4.com/forum/chirping-sound-201471.html

If that's the same noise then it's likely the tensioner as the good folks on here predicted.

Tensioner, pulley and alternator needed swapping out in my case as I had a roadside failure.

Done under warranty and the dealer even managed to get me a new battery Shocked
