Start Button Taking Forever

Hi Guys and Gals,

Hope everyone’s enjoying the Easter sun! Just wondered if anyone’s experienced the problem I’m having with the D4 start button. The car used to start straight away when the button was pressed but now it’s taking ages to start. Sometimes I hold the button pressed for a few seconds, nothing happens, try again and eventually it starts. Am worried it’s just not going start one of these days.

Any ideas on what could be the problem here?

Cheers All!

J

Thanks Dean! I spent a while searching for something similar and failed. Sounds like a straight forward fix if all it needs is a new button. Happy days!! Cheers

Starter will not operate until the glow plugs have operated, which means there can be a delay in very cold weather Thumbs Up

It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I would have thought glow plugs not a factor this time of year ... what was it like in winter?

Hi Dean, it seems to have developed over the last 6-12 months, it’s hard to say exactly as have barely used it during lockdown. I’ve had the D4 for 3 years though and it always used to start straight away, summer and winter.

Cheers

Battery?
Have you checked it? How much do you drive your car? How old is it ? Mine takes noticeably longer to start when the battery has less charge.

Good thinking Gary. It’s a 61 plate and hardly gets used, especially of late. The battery wasn’t the best when I bought it 3 years ago. I’ll investigate further!

Cheers
