I sat in my car watching cricket the other day. Nothing was switched on and the doors were closed with windows open, yet at the end of the day the battery was dead. It revived after 30 mins on jump leads.
The battery is relatively new.
Can having the key in the car all day cause a drain on the battery?

In short no. We (wife) often forget one of the keys in the car and leave it unlocked for days, has not been any issues with battery drain due to that. Defender 110 SE 2021, Tasman Blue

Did you close doors etc and lock the car? I seem to remember that the car only goes to sleep once locked, so until then the NASA worthy volume of ECUs will still be draining the battery.
I did the same the other week, opened the car, switched the courtesy lights off to do some work in the car, spent all day, came to move it and flat battery.
If your a cricket lover, may be worth either locking yourself in, or getting one of those cheap solar panels to maintain the battery while you’re watching 2008 HSE Stornoway Grey

Have you got a fridge in the centre console? - if so is it switched off?- if not switched off that's your problem. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I do not think that a cheap solar panel will do it. I believe the load when the car is awake is about 20 amps, about the same output power as a premium full size roof panel.
