Which is contrary to the provisions of the 1951 UN Convention on Refugees to which Denmark is a signatory state.
Do we want countries to start ignoring international obligations in order to make "their" people (who are where they are purely by the luck of their birth) feel good about other people not being allowed in to "their" country?
That way will quickly lead to countries tearing up every agreement they suddenly decide they don't like. And that way will lead to a world much worse than just having a few refugees turning up on UK shores. Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

With respect, a 70 year old document can’t reflect today’s society. The sheer numbers seeking a new home means controls are required. By its definition, some won’t be successful.
The other point is illegal immigration, if you decide the rules don’t apply to you and you simply pick the host country of your choice is instinctively wrong. If you’re a genuine refugee, wouldn’t you be happy to be in the first county you come to?
To my mind, you should loose any rights if you illegally enter this country and it should result in deportation irrespective of the claimed consequences.

The "rules" allow for picking of the country where a refugee ends up. This makes sense as there may be cultural issues in the first country the refugee arrives. The country they aim for might have closer cultural ties, might have family ties. Plenty of reasons really.
Why does the simple good luck of being born in a particular geographic area, the UK, allow one to say "f**k you" to people looking for a better, safer life? Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

Then the rules need changed. I’ve no issue with those legitimately coming into the country, just the illegals. For one thing, it’s not even fair on those immigrants that legitimately use the process. I grant you many have good reason to want to come in, but many others don’t, they are exploiting the system.
Luck of birth, even in this country means a different life expectations. You can’t iron out all inconsistencies on a worldwide basis.

The UK is home to approx. 1% of the 29.6 million refugees, forcibly displaced across the world*
What has happened to empathy and human kindness in this country? I read so many petty minded, xenophobic and nationalist opinions in the press.

It is recognised in the 1951 Convention that people fleeing persecution may have to use irregular means in order to escape and claim asylum in another country – there is no legal way to travel to the UK for the specific purpose of seeking asylum. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Other snippets from LT's link:
Quote:At the end of 2019 around 79.5 million people were forcibly displaced across the world. Of these, 29.6 million were refugees, whilst 45.7 million were internally displaced within their country of origin.
85% of the world’s refugees are living in countries neighbouring their country of origin, often in developing countries.
Over 6.7 million people have fled conflict in Syria, and many more are displaced inside the country. Turkey is the biggest refugee hosting country in the world. At the end of 2019 Turkey was providing safety to 3.6 million Syrian refugees. By the end of June 2020 the UK had resettled 19,768 refugees from Syria under the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme (VPRS). In addition, 239 refugees were resettled prior to this, and do not count towards the 20,000 target.
So we're hardly carrying the refugee can for that conflict (which we've certainly been involved in politically).
Quote:About 1,200 medically qualified refugees are recorded on the British Medical Association’s database. It is estimated that it costs around £25,000 to support a refugee doctor to practise in the UK. Training a new doctor is estimated to cost between £200,000 and £250,000
Best send them back to the first country they came to after fleeing their own. Don't want these scroungers on our watch! Visiting from rrsport.co.uk

…and seeing what certain people think from their advantageous situation belonging to a society established in the wealth and opulence given by development and economic success ... I do not even want to imagine what those same individuals would do if they found themselves in a situation of helplessness, uprooting, homeless and without a future and in total ruin and without any type of opportunities. I think they would be the first to take up a weapon or a machete to star in altercations and fights much worse than the ones they criticize so much and so scandalize!
IMHO! lost in translation!

I have a huge amount of empathy for asylum seekers. Perhaps because only 20 or so years before my birth, some of my mother’s family left behind their country of birth, homes, businesses, family, friends, pets, possessions etc. to seek asylum as they were in danger of being murdered. They were the lucky ones, those who remained all died.
I can’t imagine how horrific that experience must have been and feel enormously grateful that it’s highly unlikely that I will ever have to go through it myself. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

Yes! We can decide not to see it, and continue with unfair speeches and easy conversations from an advantageous position, we can convince ourselves that the problem is with the neighboring country that does not fulfill its part of containment and look the other way and not see that. The world has been plunged for decades in a huge pandemic that is hunger and inequality that leads to wars and dictatorships and consequently migrations of people who only seek to move forward ... while we continue dreaming of buying luxury cars in our sad gray and little world ... just hating everything that smells poor and foreign! lost in translation!
