Think I read that europe had the 8 x speed in 2012 and us 2014, alas don’t know how true that is

No we had the ZF 8 speed for the 2012 model year as well, the start stop didn’t align with the introduction of the 8 speed box purely emissions regulations from memory.

we never used our ss system from new,,and after 5 year battery went futt...not part of MOT so havent bothered with a new one ...dont miss it never will

I was a sceptic ! but use it all the time and dont even notice when its working most of the time its certainly has no disadvantages from my POV ,the engines there when you need it.

Many thks , alas just found it confusing when things like 8 x speed, stop start etc all came in

I have three cars that have s/s and two that don't. I use one of the later almost exclusively to commute to an office which is a 122 mile round trip, just under 100 miles of which is on motorways. When I do have to wait at traffic lights, or stuck in a jam etc. it feels wrong that the engine doesn't cut out.2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE

nothing like control...you dont have control with SS.i switch the car on to use it...i switch the car off to stop it...i dont need a computer to do that thank you...if you want to save the planet...either dont drive or curb your revs and go slower...catch the bus

When the vehicle is stopped all you need to do to activate an automatic engine restart is to press the accelerator pedal and or release the brake pedal.

Exactly you lose no responsiveness its just like normal driving. Do those that dont use it not use the auto lights and wipers as they can make the decision when they need them?

I’ve heard people say it cuts in too early. Mine is exactly right. When I stop, so does the engine. The restart happens instantaneously (relatively speaking) enabling me to pull away without issues at roundabouts. I wonder if perhaps those that don’t like it don’t have a system that works as well?
As I’ve said before, the most polluted place in our area is caused because people do not stop their engines when waiting for trains to cross in a high street causing dangerous levels of pollution. I’m pleased to use it, especially if I drive up to London to see my son. Noticeably better MPG then (compared to a spell when my battery condition would not let it kick in).
One bonus, I find, is that I am able to tell when the DPF is doing a regeneration at times when I’m in town. THE STOP/start doesn’t kick in, and if I believe there’s no other reason, I then listen to the engine which sounds more throaty.Gary
