Restricted performance

Hi Guys, had my 2013 D4 HSE Lux for just over a year and its been faultless....

I had it serviced and MOT's about 4 weeks ago and it flew through with no advisories...

Just since Saturday I have had the restricted performance warning come on a few times, each time it is rectified with a shutdown.... but soon reappears.....

Mileage 78k, just serviced no other problems and nothing amiss until the warning comes on..

Any suggestions?

Its in the garage now for diagnostic and I do have a warranty on the car....

I'm hoping MAF needs a clean and not cracked manifold....

It put money on it being a cracked manifold - right age & mileage!

I had this on a 2016 Range Vogue.

Turned out to just be a faulty air filter that threw the computer so it was getting different readings from different banks.

Changed both filters, problem solved.

It had a smoke test done and they seemed pretty confident it was the O/S manifold cracked.....

I knew I shouldn't have posted on this thread.....

Mine has gone into Restricted Performance mode twice since I posted the reply, but I can't seem to get it to reproduce the issue. When the warning comes up the performance is restricted, but it doesn't seem to come on under heavy acceleration, so I can't get it to replicate the issue.

I drove down to Aberdeen last week when it first came on, turned the car off and on again and all clear and fine until today when I drove back down to Aberdeen and it did it again at nearly exactly the same point on the road! But it didn't come on upon hard acceleration, or a downshift, it just came on randomly!

I've plugged my fault code reader into it and its come back as P2279-64

Whilst I do have a warranty from the Stratstone Mercedes dealer I bought it from, reading it through I don't think its probably worth the paper its written on which is worrying!

2016 car with 60k on the clock.

Anyone got any ideas? I have googled and googled this afternoon!

Thanks Weyboat,

Yeah, I have read that thread, and I have checked the connection between the two and it seems very solid and not out of shape.

Reading that post made me worry even more, as I am meant to be heading back down south next week towing a loaded Brian James RT6!

Well, got my car back and its functioning correctly.

O/S manifold was split

The repairer, LRX services in Leekbrook were brilliant. 3 hours to fix with a genuine new manifold.

They certainly know Discos inside out. I'll be using them for everything from now on

3 hrs is impressive. I've been quoted a bit more than that when mine goes in on Monday, but then I've asked them to do both sides, since they will have to strip down a lot of the top of the engine anyway. My logic is that if one has gone, the other won't be far behind, and I'd rather have the peace of mind that both manifolds are the new design that hopefully won't have this problem again.

Yes £208 in labour, £190 for the new manifold....

Interestingly I asked him about the manifolds - hes changed hundreds so he says... The new one is exactly the same as the failed manifold.... there has not been any revisions to the design so i'm told.

I asked about doing the N/S too and he said its the luck of the draw as to weather the N/S will need replacing. sometimes they fail too, sometimes they don't fail and can go for the life of the car......

Hmm, that contradicts what my guy was saying. I know the part number has been superseded a couple of times.

I figured that the way my luck has been going, I may as well do the N/S one while they're in there. Otherwise it WILL go, probably when I'm taking my lad to uni next month.....

I don't know either way for sure. I didn't ask to see the old one, or the new one to compare to be honest.

I know there is a technical bulletin stating that a load of the original manifolds were fitted to cars that we not manufactured correctly and they had an inherent weakness where they split.

I had toyed with the idea of buying a back up 7 seater such as a zafira or C4 piccasso as we are a family of 6 and need it to go to our caravan..... but decided it'll just be sat on the drive when the disco is behaving.... hopefully for a while now
