This chestnut has bought my LR4 undone and there are valid reasons why it has done so.
It is a project to remove this component and find the engine valley completely filled with oil.
The disconcerting fact is that when you remove and split the item you find that the seal is in the process of decomposing and was at the brink of allowing engine fluids to inter mix.
Other issues identified were that all seals had lost elasticity and there was little or no seal compression between mating surfaces.
The oil separator seals were in like condition and the rubber component as hard as a rock.
I believe this situation should not be occurring on an engine that has travelled 120K and is only 7 years old. I have been fortunate to reveal this issue prior to incurring engine damage.
