MTR noise

Just a quick question. Got a set of MTR's in the shed, havnt fitted them yet. Am wondering wether or not to use them all year round, my back is in a bit of a state, wheel changing is not much fun. On a scale of 1-10, 1-2 being normal 19" pirelli road tyre noise how would you rate noise from the MTR's?

Use the anti road noise buttons on the steering wheel or the noise control knob on the left of the head unit display Wink

About 4 - 5, you get used to them and the radio gets a bit louder. When I first fitted them I thought I'd broken something. The downside I found to using MTRs all the time is that they rob you of 2 mpg, upside seems to be that they last for ages. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Yeah I know, this might sound stupid though, but we have an account there, all our rubber comes from there, but they have done so many favours for me in the past, swapping tyres on the bikes mainly. When it comes to payment they always say dont worry about it. I just feel I would be taking the Censored if I turn up with this little lot! Embarassed Always bung the fitters a few quid, but dont want them to think Im taking advantage if you get my drift. Ill pop and have a quiet word with Steve tomorrow and see what he says. Thumbs Up

Got them fitted yesterday, have been pleasantly surprised by the lack of noise! seems louder at about 45, but get up to 70 and its hardly noticeable. Also its not the horrible low pitch drone I have had with BF AT's in the past. Dont know why I was worrying to be honest! Mr. Green

Iraq 2010 Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 HSE Auto Ipanema SandDiscovery 4

Easter I drove about 5,000kms on MTRs. When on the so-called bitumen roads here (the summer heat causes a lot of the asphalt to vapourise out leaving a mega-sandpaper surface that is the opposite of smooth). Makes the MTR's to be extremely noisy at 100-110 km/hr. Sound reminds me of the engine (and sometimes the trolly dollies) of a 40 yr old B747 (used by our esteemed airline flying to Sydney so it's all too familiar).

I ended up having a trailer built which matches the wheel base and takes the same 19" tyres + carries two spares. Now if a bitumen trip is > 800km before the rough stuff, I just leave the MTRs on the trailer (can't hear them back there). With a couple of decent jacks and jack-stands it takes about 45 mins to change them (and an opportunity to inspect for damage). It helps from triggering a case of tinnitus (both having MTRs not on the bitumen and having 45 mins of quiet tinkering whilst SWMBO departs whenever I start pulling out jacks Laughing )
