Lr3 in neutral but gear selector moves
So bad went to worse. On top of my HDC faults I tried taking my LR3 for a quick ride. Everything went well until I went to pull it in the driveway. I decided I wanted to back in. When I tried to shift from drive to reverse it’s like it got stuck in neutral. My gear selector moves. I plugged my gap IID tool it’s showing that it’s in the position that I move my gear selector to but it doesn’t move it just drifts like it’s in neutral. I tried manually shifting it but that didn’t work either. Makes a slight grinding noise when I put it back in park. Any ideas, or tests that I can run to try to figure this out? Thanks!

Well an easy fix would be low gearbox oil.
This is checked with the engine running. Going under the car and removing the side plug.
Allen key. Loosen it to start with.
Don’t run yourself over if the selector has problem.
Don’t burn yourself on the exhaust.
Other issues could be selector cable loose ? On side of gearbox. Start with this

This sounds dumb but are you taking about the transfer case gear box or the automatic transmission? I’m assuming your referring to the automatic transmission but I assumed that would have a dip stick. I have a few other issues with this that I listed in a previous post. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.
Thanks,
Joe

Yes auto box.
They don’t have dip sticks these days.
Re reading, it’s more likely gear linkage

Thanks. I’ll look at that. I am a little skeptical since my selector lever was never hard to move. It also never slipped out of drive now. Maybe it completely disconnected? If I have someone move the shifter lever I should be able to see some movement. Luckily it doesn’t look to get at/check.
