Window Tint
I've decided to get the rear windows (B pillar back) tinted primarily to keep the children cool and not have to worry about stick on blinds during the summer. It'll also look well 8) on the Zermatt D3 ! The guy has offered me medium or dark tints and I would like to know what anyone would recommend - I presume the dealer fit (film rather than tinted glass) is basically medium and that, tbh, looks like what I require.

The tints are quite dark from the outside, but you can see well looking out.
I'd get them to hold up some film over the window & then you can judge for yourself.
DiscoDunc had the smash resistant tinted film applied which also gives you greater security for only a bit more than std tints. may be worth asking them about it?
My personal preference is Dark, but NOT Limo blackBodsys Brake Bible

Hi Dexter,
I agree with Bodsy, dont go limo tint on the back windows as you cant see much in the dark!
I went for the next shade lighter with a light smoke on the passenger windows.
The main thing is to pay for a real quality job...lots of cowboys off the net offering the service for a couple of hundred quid...use a reputatble outfit who use top quality films.
Had mine done down south and really pleased, Pm if you want details, piccy gives an idea"you cannot teach stupid people to do clever things"

We have factory tints but still need blinds in the summer.

Tints
I got mine done only last week. The company I used are called Tint Haus, and I know that they have offices in Perth and Aberdeen.
I went for Light on the front (a little less than legal, but not bad), Mid on the middle and Dark at the back.
The back windows are almost black, but not Limo, and the others are v good too. Look good externally, but do not make the car dark internally.

As I understand it, any film except for a 100% clear security film is now illegal on the front windows. And all tinting companies ought to advise that this is the case.Discovery 3 TDV6 5-Seat

I think that the legal limit is 70%, however this is pretty much the standard tint on most modern cars. My fronts are 50% I think, but becasuse the size of the windows, the sunroofs and the MASSIVE windscreen, they actually look a lot lighter07 plate TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey

I was going to get mine done just as you have - a colleague warned me off as he had a bad experience with and insurance company trying to get out of paying him because he had illegal tint on his front windows - and they were "only just" under the limit.
I hate the nanny state to but this is something to think about perhaps.......

I've got an HSE with privacy glass and still ended up getting some OE blinds to prevent my baby cooking. ( they are on special offer at the moment- expensive but neat)
If you go for metalic based tints be careful about the rear side windows. there are a few threads talking about is messing up the radio reception."its probably a virus, you'll be right as rain in a few days and if you're playing sport try to favour the other leg"

Ive got Limo-Security glass all round. Yes it is a bit difficult to see out in the dark, but if you use your wing mirrors and parking sensors(although they are not essential) revearsing in the dark is fineDuncan

Took the plunge and had my windows tinted yesterday, went for the second but darkest tint available and it looks fantastic. Lifetime guarantee for as long as I own the vehicle and a superb job - really sets the Zermatt D3 off and the kids love it
I'd certainly recommend Scott from Motorwerks in Aberdeen - no connection just a very satisfied customer.
