Avon AX7

Looking to swap out the tyres on the car, usually only buy two at a time and rotate but at my last fitting that wasn’t an option. So will probably fit 4 new ones this time. Always stuck with Goodyear Wranglers as originally fitted . However open now to other brands. Mostly on road but wet grip important.

I've got Avon AX7's on mine and they are fine. For on road usage I would say the wranglers are probably better as they are designed for more on road use. Not sure if they have 'mud and snow' rating but they say they are good in the rain and when i had them, I never had any issues.

I swapped to AX&'s for a more aggressive looking tread pattern and due to doing a bit of light off roading, nothing other than fields and tracks. I've not had any issues with the AX7's. They are wearing very well with no sign of needing replacing for ages yet. Thumbs Up

As a side note, the AX7's are the same tyre as the Cooper Discoverer ATT. Note ATT and not AT3. They are just branded differently for the UK market rather than US.

I've got ATT on the front and AX7 on the rear as when I looked to replace them backs, I found this out and the AX7 were about £15 a corner cheaper. 8)

I do motorway, A roads and B roads and haven't skidded, aquaplanned or felt unstable at any point using the AX7's. I've not got stuck on the little off road I do, so when I do come to replace them, I'll be buying the same tyres again.

Hope that helps.

Jim

Suppose it’s a price/quality compromise. Plus replacing 4 at once so trying to keep costs down.

I also need tyres and have looked at the AX7's. Previously I had Pirelli scorpion zeros which were ok but did tramline later in their life. As I have retired and not doing the mileage I decided last time to go for Kumho at a cheaper price. What a mistake! Got just 15K out of them and uneven wear plus the grip isn't as good. False economy!
This time I will get a decent tyre but so many to choose from and all have varied reviews. I would say 90% of my usage will be on road though so probably a bit easier choice

In reality I'm probably 90% road use too to be honest. The tracks and fields I go around could probably get a car around, if not a tad bumpy!

They are wearing extremely well and nice and evenly too. I've done a good few thousand miles in them so far and can't really tell they've worn. I don't drive like miss daisy but I also don't attack corners at every opportunity.

I've not checked prices for a while, but i think the AX7 and the Wrangler HP All weather weren't too far apart on price. I'm very happy with the AX7's for my use. It's all down to personal preferance I suppose.

Good luck with the search and let me know what you decide on and how they fair. Thumbs Up

Don't think the Ax7's are done in 20's are they?

And just to confirm (in case it’s not been picked up) Avon tyres are actually owned by Cooper tires.

Indeed they are. I forgot to mention that bit. Laughing

As for sizes, I don't know if they are available in 20's. Good point. I missed that too. It's going well. Laughing
