Front bearing won’t budge

In the middle of doing this now guys. I have a hub puller but I’m a bit weary about how much pressure I can exert on the drive shaft. Any advice?

Could be teaching Grandma to suck eggs here Whistle

I have you gone around the diameter with a hammer. Firm but not hard just taps.

12 o'clock, 1 o'clock and so and just make you're way around?

I have had that work before.

Good luck Thumbs Up

If that doesn't work warm it up with a blow lamp.
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Don't use the driveshaft to push on that wont help, and might damage the CV's.

That’s what I was worried about thanks for advice. I just put the puller on for the pic reference so that you guys would know what I was bumbling on about. Yes been hitting it. Will heat it up next as mentioned. Definitely going to add a slide hammer to my arsenal. Cheers guys.

i just did one of mine last week i couldnt get the Censored shield off which was harder,

i used a lump hammer on full lock with the rack disconnected hit each side until it moves, then drove a chisel in to act as a wedge and went to other side with hammer and it came out that way

Again Grandma and eggs but you have undone the 4 retaining bolts holding the bearing carrier on?

If you have got new bolts, use the old bolts to knock it out, just put them back in part way and use them as a punch, once it moves use a wide bolster chiesel to get it moving, then a wider one to remove.

Failing that you need a slide hammer, but I have never failed with the above way, and have had some real Censored .

Flack Thumbs Up

When you do eventually get the old bearing off, clean the carrier well, and apply loads of coppaslip, aluminium paste, grease or whatever your preferred anti seize is to the new bearing. Thumbs Up

Yeah done them a plenty on my Discovery. This is my new to me RRS. So whoever has done this before has probably not put any on. At 85,000 miles I’d be amazed if this was the original.

To make matters worse it’s now starting to pour down. (Soul destroying) Censored .
On that note I am going in to the house for a cuppa. WD-40 is seeping in between so hopefully it’ll help me out. Just need some luck off the Irish if any members from across the pond wants to grant me some.

Replaced a front hub last month, I just took a rather large copper hammer (a number 4 IIRC) to the outside of the old hub and worked my way round and it eventually came away

Finally got the Censored off. As mentioned no copper grease. Could well be an original or a lazy mechanic. I used a threaded bolt to press back on the hub. Red neck way, but it’s what got me out of the Censored
