Parking brake fault in wet weather

Hi all,

Hoping someone may have solved this one before. I’ve had the parking brake fault light come on twice in the past week. Both situations have been when I’ve had to go through a deep ish puddle on the near side of the road at around 40mph when avoiding oncoming traffic in the dark.

With this fault the brake does not actuate but aftre the vehicle has been asleep for a while it activates with no issues.

I’m thinking it’s an electrical connector but haven’t had chance to look under it yet, so appreciable any pointers.

Sounds like there might be water ingress on the electrical connections at the actuator module, or perhaps more likely the large block connectors on top of the n/s/r chassis rail.

You'll need the wheel off and or spare out to inspect these wires properly and you need to be thorough! It's unlikely the blocks themselves are the problem as they rarely give trouble, so don't open them or you will likely need a suspension recalibration if you do.

Ideally though, you need diagnostic codes read first before attempting anything, but a close visual inspection of the above mentioned cables might yield some results.

Get the codes read first, it might save you wasted time and effort. In the meantime you could avoid using it, and when it's safe to do so just use "park"??
