Help! Engine won’t turnover |
|
I was in the process of fitting a new alternator to my 2007 tdv6. I connected the red positive cable to it, needed to get something out of the boot so reconnected the battery so I could open the boot.. I’d left my ratchet ring spanner on the nut for the cable connection to the alternator as I hadn’t finished tightening it. As soon as I connected the battery, sparks came from the spanner, I assume it shorted against the body of the alternator? ( Stupid schoolboy error🙈!) I disconnected the battery immediately. Now car won’t turnover. All the rest of the electrics seem ok. What I have I blown? I’ve swapped the starter motor relay but no effect. Is there a fuse that I have blown or caused a problem with the starter motor. Any assistance gratefully received. Thanks.

The connection between the positive battery lead and the battery terminal clamp is designed as a fuse.
If this is still intact you could try a hard reset. Basically removing one or both the battery cables and shorting them together.
Search for hard reset on this site.
Good luck

Thanks John. I’ve seen on line reference to a 400amp mega fuse. I assume that is the same thing? Hopefully check the fuse , if blown replace it? If not try your suggestion of the hard reset? Thanks Mark
