84M / 112K Cambelt Service
My D4 (MY16) on 59k sailed through its MOT this week with no advisories - all good
It was 1st registered in 09/2015 so is due its 84M / 112K service - aka the 3 Cambelts! Main JLR Dealer quote £1500 + VAT…
I know it’s all about the 7Y / 84M and the 59K+ mileage is irrelevant, but its a lot of 💰💰. I have an extended JLR Used Approved warranty until 2023, but unsure whether if I go to a local Indy to get the work done (with genuine LR parts) instead, whether this will affect the warranty? The service record will have all main dealer stamps up to this point…. Will this change to a local Indy at this point in time have a significant impact on potential trade-in/re-sale value?
I’d be interested to hear others thoughts/comments/recommends… 👍FL2 GS TD4 MY07 Stornaway Grey (45k) - gone
D3 SE TD6 MY55 Zermatt Silver (156k) - now gone
D4 HSE SDV6 MY16 Aruba (48k)

Using indy wont affect warranty ( with big caveat) and from a purely mechanical point of view in my mind affect resale value .
Now the caveat !! and its a big one . your extended warranty will not cover the broken crank issue ,they just wont entertain it! To get your engine replaced by JLR under goodwill it will need a full JLR dealer history(and their help) and would be my main concern with your vehicle as they are pretty generous if you have that history. mine with a 65 plate with 67k on the clock got replaced with no cost to me. As you can see been there done that got the T-shirt. I can assure you that an engine replacement makes the belt replacement look cheap.
As buyers are getting more aware of this problem it most likely will affect what price you get.
So its down to how lucky you feel

This is not necessarily true. I suffered the dreaded broken crankshaft a little over 2 years ago and had a very satisfactory outcome. My vehicle had a full service history (2013 with approximately 58k miles) but NONE of it was JLR, all independents. I took it to an approved Land Rover Service Centre and they dealt with the issue in a way that cannot be faulted. It ended up costing me nothing; JLR paid for 90% of the work and the RAC Warranty the picked up the balance. That was for parts and labour, genuine LR remanufactured engine and both turbochargers.

At that age I wouldn’t expect it to affect resale value at all.
Ensure genuine parts are used then you should be ok, I think it’s more how the dealer approaches LR than whether it’s full LR SHJoined the BMWX5 45e group

When I sold my 2015 HSE LUX to WBAC they took £200 of their offer price for the fact that I had serviced it myself in the 18 months I had it. Prior to that it had only one service done at LR and 2 with independents. As I still made £2000 more that I paid for it I was more than happy with the outcome!
