Spiderman and Anadin Extra
I took the youngest to see the new Spiderman movie at the weekend. On the way to the cinema I started to feel a bit of a headache coming on. Knowing I had nothing in the car and not wanting to risk being miserable during the film, I rushed in to Tesco to grab a pack of paracetamol.
As I have to wear reading glasses, I'm as blind as a bat on close up stuff. So of course I didn't have them with me when I went in to Tesco as I'd just jumped out of the car. I went to the pharmacy section and saw mostly empty shelves and not what I was looking for straight away, the basis tesco own brand (32p). I could just about make out Anadin and grabed them. Quick check out at the self service and back to the car.
Running a bit late now, we rushed in to the cinema and straight to our screen. Sat down as the film started and ready to go.
Reached in to my pocket and pulled out the Anadin. I hate blister packs and was thinking as I was fumbling around trying to get it open that they must have changed the tablets as these seemed bigger than I remember. Maybe there're chewable types for kids? Better take 2 then.
Pop the pair in my gob and started to chew away. Wow, these are different I thought as they fizzed in my mouth. Then the dryness came on.
What the . I couldn't get over the bitterness and was not about to spit this out of my mouth with a Karen next to me who was already giving me the evils. So I just had to suck it up and finish what I started.
Moral of the story... Don't buy what you can't see and don't eat 2 soluble Anadin unless you have something to flush them down with Joe

Normally I have my glasses 'on a string' round my neck, but this pair was my spare sans string.
Going by the size of them, if they were Viagra, I'd say they were for an elephant and I'd be dead with full on self inflicted rigor mortis Joe
Anadin Extra put me into hospital a few years back. Had a really bad migraine coming on and was on my way to a mate's wedding. Dashed into a petrol station to grab whatever paracetamol they had (I'm allergic to NSAIDs) and the response at the counter was "Paracetamol? Yes, got these Anadin ones, they're the stronger ones"
With head pounding I just grabbed them, necked a couple and jumped in the car.
Later that day my wife witnessed me being resuscitated by the crash team at the local hospital after I went into anaphylactic shock and all the associated fun that ensued, due in part to the aspirin content. There were other factors in play that contributed to the scale of the episode, but I wasn't aware of these at the time. Subsequent testing showed I was also horrifically allergic to wheat and that the consumption of aspirin was the catalyst to the chain of events the followed.
Lesson learned: Always, always read the label. That household name can hide a multitude of different medications / ingredients. (Boots stock 8 different types of Anadin with varying mixes quantities of Paracetamol, Aspirin and Ibuprofen)I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Wow, that's quite an episode when all you wanted to do was get rid of a headache.
Luckily the only thing that disagrees with me sometimes is SWMBO Joe

I learned in my days as Sales Manager, always carry Ibrup (or whatever was the painkiller of choice) in the car as once had to buy said meds on the road. But my motivation to always carry then was more based on price than medical need, still in shock at the price paid at a Mway service station cf local Tesco (other supermarkets are available).
