D4 Electrical Issues - Car Won't Start - Based in Kent |
|
Hi All - I hope someone can help me diagnose an issue and also to recommend some garages who can help with the following:
I've had a couple of issues with my 2016 D4 over the past couple of weeks, and I'm not sure if the first issue has caused the second issue.
The first issues was quite simple - and was the known problem of the engine cover fouling the top radiator hose which resulted in a small hole and some coolant loss. Nothing major, and this was easily fixed with a replacement hose (plus grinding off a bit of the engine cover) and the car was running fine for a few days. However, some water/antifreeze mix did splash about the engine bay for a while and I am wondering if this has now caused my second more major issue which started a few days after replacing the hose....
...which is the car now won't start. The brake pedal is solid and the car's electrics turn on OK when pressing the start button, but the car doesn't turn over. It's very similar to this thread:
https://www.disco4.com/forum/topic183907.html
I've got some error codes which I can share when I am back at home.
I wondered if it was a dodgy earth strap, but putting a jump lead from the -ve terminal to the engine block made no difference. I am worried that the coolant leak has got into the control units and caused some damage?
I appreciate this is hard for anyone here to diagnose, so I am also after recommendations for garages in Kent (I am near to Ashford) who are good with such electronic woes? I usually use AHL in Ulcombe but they are booked up into June so I am after alternatives, or a good mobile mechanic, as the car is currently a non-starter.
Any help or suggestions much appreciated!
Ian.

First make sure you press the brake hard. If the vacuum servo is depleted for any reason you will need to press harder.
Second, is it in Park? It should be, but the knob can stick or fail.

Hi nigethecat,
Thanks very much for the link to that thread - your forum search skills are better than mine as I didn't come across that one It does look like my issue, so perhaps that is the module that's given up on my car.
I'll bump that thread in case the OP (crasha) is still about, as I will be interested in seeing how he got on last year.
Thanks,
Ian.

I would also try a new brake switch - these can be picked up very cheap and can give the same problems as you are experiencing I believe. I bought my spare from the company below.

Thanks very much for your replies Nasher, Famousfive and Drezic86!
I had a go at using a temporary earth cable from -ve terminal to the engine, but no joy, so I guess my earth strap is still OK.
The brake switch is only £19 so I'm tempted to get one and fit it and see - might save me fair bit of money in the long run if it is that.
Thanks again all.
Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian
Did you resolve this? Was it the brake switch?
Had a similar issue this morning.
Thanks Gary
