3.0 SDV6 - P242D and restricted performance.

Hi. Has anyone replaced an exhaust gas temperature sensor on an SDV6? I have a P242D code coming up after a few miles (I’m assuming it’s trying to start a regen). Restricted performance disappears if you stop the car and restart and then reappears a few miles down the road.

No obvious symptoms and MPG hasn’t dropped.

Have you tried to force a regen by driving for about 20 mins at higher revs than normal

Is that a thing?

I've come from an L322 and I was under the impression regens could only be forced with the aid of software.

With the L322 it needed at least 1/4 tank of fuel and a steady 50mph (which was 1200rpm in top). This was the criteria for a regen and no amount of added revs made any difference.

I think the problem is that the temp sensor is not telling the PCM that the regen can begin.

Happy to give it a go if that isn't the case though.

No need to rev for a regen as Kooky says. Just a long run above 50mph with a good load of fuel in tank.

Had both replaced. The code is P242D. It’s post DPF if the code is to be believed, I just wondered if anyone had had the same issues.

P242D-00 is related to the second (post cat) exhaust temperature probe (cable or sensor fault)

Embarassed

if the proble is the sensor, it's quite easy to change, if the issue is the harness..............

Had it in to LR today for further diagnostics. Definitely the sensor. Quoted £400 to replace. Fortunately it was the one that takes 1.8 hrs not the one that takes 7.5

I have 2 Indy’s in my area. One wouldn’t do the work as it was under warranty and the other couldn’t see it for 3 weeks.
