Bad smelling exhaust on cold starts with a bit of smoke

Hi,

I have a disco 3 2006 tdv6 that has a really bad smelling exhaust on cold starts only. There is a small amount of coloured smoke accompanying it that isn’t really blue or white either. Warm starts are fine, power is fine, coolant level and oil levels are ok too. The smell is noxious, not sweet and not rotten eggs. Could it be unburnt diesel?
It has had the egr’s removed some time in the past but other than that it’s up together.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Any further information needed please ask.

Thanks

Ed

Can’t help other than to say that just entered back in to the D3 fold and my new one does exactly the same and was going to post up. Only noticed today as first time started it at 3 degrees. Nothing on IID and starts fine just smokes a bit!

As above, FBH. Mine has a distinctive smell as well when it’s activated and if you get a whiff….. 5 years later I’d say it’s fine.

It’s only at the back of the car so I would have thought the fbh would put the smell more at the front.
I will have a word with my friendly independent to get the injector balance checked. I do have a reader but I doubt it would be able to do that.
Thanks guys.
