Dummy OBD port - anyone tried one of these? |
|
I’ve already unclipped and tucked my OBD port up away behind the trim, but I was thinking about fitting one of these to fill the hole that’s been left.
eBay Item No. 323717466051
Before I order one, I’d be interested to hear if anyone has tried one? Thanks

I assume that means you have to uplug it every time you want to use your code reader?

get one of these https://disco4.com/shop/obd2-socket-housing-p67.html
swap it with the black one fitted to the car, tuck lead away, then refit black one in normal position. add a few wires if you want. .

Good idea and certainly a cheaper option, but I wouldn’t want to play around with the wiring on the original port. The dummy one also says it ‘seems to be live but doesn't transfer any information therefore thief loses ability to start the car via OBD port’. It’d also be easy to remove and reinstate the original when required.

Guess it might, but the dummy one claims to give the impression it’s a live port....just thought it might deter a thief looking further. See...

Actually I can get these in black now 8)
I can also supply a "dummy" kit like the eBay one (which is just the 2 power and ground wires run through as you can see from the "plug" end, and some unconnected terminals in the socket end). 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
Any issues with the site let me know!

+1 interested Martin.
Is yours pre-wired like the eBay one?
Only asking as I would hate to make a mistake if having to wire it myself. 2014 D4 HSE Facelift Corris Grey

pity there isn't a 240v supply in the car we could wire to some of the pins.

Could do it though an inverter, and wreck any device they plug in to it.
Just remember to tell your chosen service garage or they might get a tad angry! 2014 D4 XS
