I have had a genuine BT IID Tool for a few years now, and it has proven very useful to read fault codes, clear codes etc. However, that's about all I have ever done with it and I'm sure there must be more to it.
Mine is a 2008 D3 TDV6 by the way.

If there’s a particular thing that’s of concern you can set up a screen to monitor these figures. I used to have this up on my phone, gave me hours of entertainment on a long haul. You can never be too paranoid!

IID was used on mine to code the Xenons and DRL (but your HSE will have those anyway) timed climate (you've got it) add the lock/unlock chirp
there weren't many more features, if any that could be added to my XS spec as I have factory 4x4 info and rear camera but you could add these if you don't already have it.
ive seen of people on here resetting ride height sensors, new battery installations, live readings of components such as turbo boost, EGR, MAF etc etc.2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

I suppose that depends on how much you want to work on your car or play around with its specification.
For example I only got mine a few weeks ago and so far I've tested my Webasto heater works ok, I've recalibrated my suspension after fitting a new height sensor and putting bigger wheels on, and I've deflated my suspension to cure a leaky joint.

I don't have DRL's and cannot be bothered, - I just put my lights on!
I have the FBH but not timed climate (screen based or key fob) - i this something I can enable?
I also don't have rear camera (think this arrived on the 2010 D4 only

the main reason I got the Xenon DRL combo was an upgrade from the rubbish 2011 Halogen to a bargain set of 2015 lights off an HSE spec D4, I made more back selling the old lights on Ebay
Yes I think you could add timed climate to yours but someone with more knowledge of the D3 screens etc would be better placed to advise.
Couldn't agree more with what you say about knowing what your looking at on the IID, ive not bothered getting one as there are a couple of trusted indys round here I can use for fault codes etc2011 D4 XS 305 MY12 - gone but not forgotten

Used it to update the bluetooth software to save inputting the 1212's every time I used the motor and also have the phone book displayed now

The adaptions can be reset!
You can update the firmware of your gearbox with the latest available through Gaps fast track service for £25, I did my D3 with good results It can when others can't,

you can program new keys, and calibrate the suspension.
update ecu software.
remap the engine, (though you have to pay for the map file)

Well I guess I’ll be buying a Gap IID tool then! If you own multiple LR’s is it possible to buy a license to use on them or is the unit locked to one VIN?16 D4 Landmark

It is locked to one vin but extra vins can be purchased or you can buy the unlocked version which costs considerably more, but the single vin version is capable of doing at lot to other LR vehicles in the same range, read codes, live values but cannot update ECU’s.It can when others can't,
